Even our organs are different

Interesting article here using ‘sexual dimorphism’ regularly throughout.
Apparently a lot of the differences really kick in around puberty.

Again, male privilege to take drugs that have been thoroughly studied on your body type regardless of how you present or identify.

Genetics Behind Differences In Male And Female Organs Decoded For First Time — IFLScience

The study sheds light on the differences we can’t see, as well as those we can.

This is really interesting. Again, shows how important puberty is and how little we understand what it does.

Plasmodesmata · 04/11/2023 09:24

I am surprised that IFLS actually published that, given the position they usually take on such matters. Two sexes? Gasp!

ZeldaFighter · 04/11/2023 10:07

I can imagine that this research will be used to prove that lowering testosterone "turns this off" and makes men into women 😞

Rightsraptor · 04/11/2023 12:57

It's very strange that the more we learn about the many and profound differences between the sexes, the more some people insist there are no consequences attached to being one sex or the other.

pickledandpuzzled · 04/11/2023 14:53

I felt there was the opportunity to claim ‘aha, we’re all female until puberty!’. Generally though it was clear that the difference between male and female is indeed organ and cell deep, rather than affected by whether or not you wear lipstick.

I'm so confused. So India Willoughby, e.g. is female. Why would her organs be different to other penis havers/ former penis havers. As I've learnt more about how sexual dimorphism is a myth and mammals can change sex, I find myself so confused by articles likes this. Can anyone explain?!

India has a cervix. However, unlike yours or mine, it is in her mind.

IFLScience was (still is?) headed by Elise Andrew, “criticised for publishing false & misleading information” (quick wiki search). The website was bought by the Canadian LabX Media Group in 2020 - which could explain the general approach to gender noted by pp

In this case though, the source article is far more reliable - just published in peer-reviewed Science journal

https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adf1046y

Thankyou for publishing to LabX. Let’s hope more members of the Canadian community see this and draw conclusions for Homo sapiens. And thankyou pickled for sharing this.
