Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
Doomscrolling · 27/10/2023 12:39

Wow, Polly, I thought she of all people would know the answer to this! She's been watching politics through a feminist lens for decades. It can't be a surprise to her that a party which refuses to enshrine women's rights over gender ideology is viewed with suspiciuon by women.

What is this bigging up of Rachel Reeves? She's just another banker, are we now going to be so Team Women and Team Men that we won't judge her on her own merits?
From my initial look at her career, she's no more or less impressive than Rishi Sunak.
So please pundits, stop with the Reeves as saviour schtick.

Polly Toynbee needs to get out a bit more to work out why 25% of women are still undecided. Nearly 14 years of Tory failure, and still a quarter of female voters don't fully trust Labour?

Polly, ya don't think it might be Starmer's "policies" on gender? Because it looks blindingly obvious to me. MN may be a hot house, but GC women nationwide spend time in hot houses.

Toynbee says women want "policies not politics". No, they want both. Policies that maintain women's sex based rights. And a politics of honesty where Labour politicians incl Starmer don't bend like the wind working out their definitions of women based on focus groups and activist demands.

Oh dear, another reason to be disappointed with the Guardian. I've always admire Polly Toynbee, but she does seem to find it hard to get out of her nice intelligentsia Islington bubble (and I'm part of that bubble myself in many ways).

She knows about stuff like women's rights (and poverty & deprivation) in theory, but if she doesn't know why so many women don't trust Labour, she really is out of touch ...

Oh dear, another reason to be disappointed with the Guardian.

In case you need another, they also just published a puff piece on brave, outspoken Crispin Blunt today, following his arrest on suspicion of rape:

Crispin Blunt: outspoken Tory with an independent side

Haven’t read it but agree on Reeves.
