WPATH and the NHS - update

Hagiography · 26/10/2023 10:04

A reminder that the NHS still employ several members of WPATH and still refer to them for various 'gender' issues.

This will be a long post with various links and evidence in it.

NHS Scotland apologised for linking to the Eunuch Archive inadvertently when they hosted the WPATH Standards of Care on a website, but the NHS still have many links to WPATH.

In fact the Co Chair of WPATH's latest Standards of Care is employed by The Nottingham Centre for Transgender Health.

Jon Arcelus

https://ncth.nhs.uk/meet-the-staff/

'Professor Arcelus, who has been with the clinic since November 2014, is the co-chair of the Standards of Care version 8 (SOC-8) developed by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). He works closely with trans organisations, including Mermaids, Gender Intelligence and Translearning partnership. He is also an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Transgender Health. Alongside this, Professor Arcelus is an Emeritus Professor in Mental Health and Wellbeing at the University of Nottingham, and enjoys travelling in his spare time. As a patient, you may see him for first or second assessments, or when getting surgery recommendations or hormone advice. '

A few links to evidence NHS references/links to WPATH:

Here is NHS England's recent consultation on puberty blockers:

'NHS England sent a draft policy proposition out for targeted stakeholder testing for 2 weeks from 8th June 2023 to 25th June 2023. We received 23 responses during this engagement phase, including 13 responses from organisations, four from clinicians/academics and six from individuals or carers/family members.

Themes arising from responses to this early engagement included;

• the need for clarity regarding patients children and young people receiving PSH
treatment
• lack of alignment with WPATH standards of care (version 8)
...

On alignment to WPATH standards; NHS England commissions treatment based on evidence of clinical effectiveness, cost effectiveness and safety. WPATH standards of care do not determine clinical commissioning decision for the NHS.'

This is from NHS STANDARD CONTRACT FOR GENDER IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICE FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS 1.4.2016 to 1.4.2020, reviewed and adopted in 2019:

'The service will be delivered in line with:
 emerging evidence for best practice
 relevant national and international guidelines for the care of children and adolescents with GD such as the World Professional Association for Transgender Health Standards Of Care For the Health of Transsexual, Transgender and Gender Nonconforming people, (Version 7 2012) (referred to in this document as WPATH SOC v7) and the Endocrine Society’s Clinical Guidelines (2009);'

https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/gender-development-service-children-adolescents.pdf

NHS website still lists WPATH on 'Information for professionals' page under 'Useful resources/reading' heading:

https://www.cntw.nhs.uk/services/northern-region-gender-dysphoria-service-specialist-service-walkergate-park/information-for-professionals/

Now, a selection of articles on WPATH from the Reduxx website, which is all evidenced/cross referenced and thus contains a lot of links, I think which will be preserved in the post below. Content warning for some CSA references:

WPATH guidelines link to the Eunuch Archives.

'On December 3, 2021, WPATH released draft guidelines which included, for the first time, the category of ‘eunuch’ as a protected “gender identity.” WPATH’s updated 8th edition of their Standards of Care (SOC), which recommends medical treatment and services for those with a self-declared ‘gender identity,’ describes the relationship between “eunuch-identified people and other transgender people.”
The document states, “Eunuch-identified people may share with other gender-diverse people a desire for reduction or elimination of masculine physical features, masculine genitals, or genital functioning.”
It also goes on to claim that “eunuch-identified people may suffer the same minority stress as other stigmatized groups,” and refers extensively to research collected from a hardcore fetish site called the Eunuch Archives — a site that features child sexual exploitation fantasies centered around stopping little boys from going through puberty.'

WPATH member defends paedophiles

'On July 24, licensed professional counselor Miranda Galbreath uploaded a video to her YouTube titled “Let’s talk about minor-attracted persons.” In the video, Galbreath attempts to frame pedophiles as “the most vilified population of folks” who suffer from “judgemental” assumptions of the wider population.
Galbreath utilizes the term “minor attracted people,” shunning the term “pedophile” as having negative connotations.

“The term pedophile has moved from being a diagnostic label to being a judgmental, hurtful insult that we hurl at people in order to harm them or slander them. I also like to use person-first language that recognizes that any label we apply to a person is only part of who they are.” Galbreath compares a predatory sexual interest in children to an innate sexuality, saying, “[Minor-attracted person] simply means that the person has an enduring sexual or romantic attraction to minors. They have not chosen this attraction… you don’t get to choose to be heterosexual or gay, and you don’t get to choose to be a minor-attracted person.” ...Galbreath is a registered member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH)''

Academics involved in the Eunuch Archive invited to speak at WPATH conference

'A Professor Emeritus at California State University who has given academic talks on “expanding the transgender umbrella” has for over two decades participated in a fetish forum that hosts and produces extreme sadomasochistic written pornography involving the castration and torture of children.
Thomas W. Johnson, a retired Professor at California State University in Chico (CSUC), is a formative member of the body modification fetish site The Eunuch Archive,
...
Richard J. Wassersug has for over 20 years used the alias “Eunuchunique” on the forum, while Krister H. Willette, who has been active in the community since 1998, uses the screen name “Kristoff.” Both men, along with Johnson, presented research they co-authored together at a 2009 conference in Oslo held by WPATH. Wassersug was an Honorary professor in the Department of Cellular and Physiological Sciences at the University of British Columbia, but has also been affiliated with Dalhousie and La Trobe Universities.
In May 2010, the contents of the Oslo presentation were published in The International Journal of Transgenderism, an academic journal issued by WPATH.
Wassersug, Willette, and Johnson were again invited to speak at a 2011 WPATH conference in Atlanta, Georgia.'

Psychologist associated with pro-paedophile groups assisted with organising a WPATH conference

'A prominent Norwegian psychologist with connections to the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) was previously associated with multinational pro-pedophile groups which lobbied for lowering the age of consent. Thore Langfeldt assisted in the organizing of a 2009 WPATH conference in Oslo primarily focused on gender identity and children.'

Academic who campaigns to lower the age of consent invited to present at WPATH conference

'A leading academic journal has published an article questioning the need for age of consent laws and claiming that discussions of “youth sexuality” are unjustly hindered by “cancel culture.” The author, Marshall Burns, is a physicist and technology entrepreneur who was involved in the development of the early computer industry and operates a website titled “Consenting Juveniles.”
...Burns was invited to present on the topic, “Consenting Juveniles: First-hand Accounts of Sex for Fun or Love” at a conference organized by the former president of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), Eli Coleman.'

Yes, of course NHS England does.

They've no intention of moving away from affirmation.

Hagiography · 26/10/2023 11:13

I would very much like to hear Dr Cass' thoughts on WPATH and the NHS' links. I wonder if it will form part of her report?

In fact thinking more on this, I am wondering if the tangled connections and references to what is increasingly looking like a highly dubious organisation (WPATH) are perhaps a reason that the new services are being delayed?

Tavistock Centre

New youth gender services further delayed

The replacement services for the Tavistock Centre will now not open until next year.

It would bear investigation.

Depending on people's perspective, Indigo in Manchester (for adults but also late teenagers) is one of the most revolutionary and effective services ever or the money is not being invested to full effect.

Great thread. Lots of useful stuff all in one place.
Thank you 🙏

Redshoeblueshoe · 26/10/2023 15:29

I live in Manchester and when I went for my flu jab last week there was a big poster up for Indigo, and a massive pile of leaflets. As no one was around I was tempted to nick all the leaflets, but then I thought they might think lots of people want them.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2023 15:45

@Hagiography this thread also mentions Arcelus

10/Jon Arcelus, co-chair of the WPATH SOC8 committee "defended the Standards of Care for making 'strong recommendations based on weak or non-existent evidence.' After all, he pointed out, medical authorities found it appropriate to treat novel diseases like COVID-19 despite lack of evidence for the safety and efficacy of interventions- and he asked: 'do we stop treating anorexia because evidence [for interventions] is low or very low?' Again, what we have here is the appearance of scientific inquiry, intended not to inform but to reassure. Trust us. We know what we’re doing. We have 1,800 references."

Also working at the Nottingham Centre for Trans Health is Walter Bouman. He is ex president of WPATH and was in charge of translating version 8 of the Standards of Care.

Dr Meg-John Barker

Pops up everywhere.

Hagiography · 26/10/2023 18:28

There are various connections between many familiar faces, Eresh.

Arcelus is connected to Spectra, who has Kamilla Kamaruddin on the board.

I guess genderworld is quite a small one.

Kamilla Kamaruddin

That's the MTF GP who boasted of the validation of doing intimate procedures on Muslim women, I think?

Hagiography · 26/10/2023 22:33

Yes.

'A lot of my patients were quite conservative — many female patients wore long clothes, or the hijab — but they allowed me to examine them despite my change. In fact, after my transition, they even allowed me to perform more intimate examinations that they did not let me to do when I was a male GP.'
