New Youth Gender Services further delayed

'The opening of the first of the new NHS gender identity services for children has been further delayed, the BBC has learned.
Two new services will replace the Gender Identity Development Service (Gids), based at London's Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
Initially due to open last spring, the London-based southern hub will now not be taking patients this autumn either.
A full mobilisation is now planned by April 2024.'

I wonder what is causing the delay. It would be interesting to know.

It’s also appalling that, in the meantime, no new patients are being taken on, meaning that by the time any new clinic opens, the waiting list will have grown so enormous that it will place the new clinics under almost impossible pressure.

Things must have been pretty dire at GIDS for the powers that be to decide that they could not safely navigate taking on new patients at all. It might have been better to allow them to take in new patients, while returning to the previous, fully evidence based watchful waiting protocol. Guess that would have caused so much outrage that they didn’t dare.

I am wondering if suddenly the grown ups have taken over, realised that the people who said they were experts and were therefore put in charge are ... not.

And all the grown ups are now effectively going fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck what do we do, we've sterilised children and it's all been a terrible mistake?
