Kathleen Stock has been investigating. This is a taster, but it seems to be meet the new blue haired loons, same as the old blue haired loons

Full report released at midnight, if I read it correctly, if anyone wants to wait up....

Preview: Inside Britain's new trans clinics

Since its closure was announced last July, Gids — the Gender Identity Development Service at the world-renowned Tavistock and Portman Trust — has become synonymous with mismanagement and medical scandal. It was supposed to be a haven for young people e...

It's a premium article so I don't have access to the full article/report.

FWR posters recognised the likelihood of ending up with distributed regional GIDS immediately after the original announcement (there were more threads along these lines but I can't find them or they've been deleted). Same pro-medicalisation clinicians, patient and public voice partners that all share the same ideology, all in place to create a chain of GIDS. Talk about the many-headed hydra arising from cutting off one head (GIDS).

It was there in the proposals for multiple local clinics. I did a response to the consultation. It was still talking about the medical pathway. I am not surprised at all, as areas like Nottingham which have a gender identity clinic are fully bought into transgenderism and they need a supply of children/teenagers don't they? They can't exist if they successfully support teens to feel comfortable in their own skin as they grow up.

IcakethereforeIam · 19/10/2023 08:29

Apologies, I didn't realise it would be a premium article. I hadn't realised Unherd even did them. The little bit I could read seems thoroughly depressing.

'UnHerd columnist Kathleen Stock has spent the past month speaking to a range of clinicians, NHS professionals and parents of dysphoric children — to find out whether Gids’s new service will be an improvement.
The portrait she paints is stark: her findings suggest that the NHS gender services are yet to become a clinically safe space for children and teens, with senior figures still pushing an activist ideology. Only last week, NHS bosses internally announced that they are significantly delaying the launch of one of the hubs. And as she reveals in her investigation, published at midnight tonight, it is unlikely to be the final twist in Gids’s new chapter…'

We should be able to find out about the delayed hub.

Good points, especially your final sentence, which is very chilling.

Froodwithatowel · 19/10/2023 11:18

It was very, very obvious this would happen if government did not take a firm hand and separate the service from the political lobby and every member of staff they'd captured.

The politics have to be gutted out of medical care, and every other public funded service. They are not compatible with objectivity, ethics or child safeguarding. This is going to have to be faced up to.

RethinkingLife · 19/10/2023 11:37

Mermaids and similar organisations had a network of people in place at every hub. The way things are this will be a distributed network of mini-GIDS and the ideology will be that much more difficult to remove from multiple centres.

The full report is excellent - worth the price of a subscription to Unherd, particularly as Dr. Stock now writes regularly for them.

I say 'excellent'... also depressing... along with the news that Rishi Sunak has confirmed that a draft bill to outlaw "conversion therapy" will be included in the King's Speech.

MavisMcMinty · 19/10/2023 16:01

Isn’t Polly Carmichael STILL in charge of GIDS?

In how many other jobs with such damning reports as Cass, would the head of the disgraced service be allowed to continue, to be actively involved in setting up the replacement clinics?

I’d really like to know what kompromat Carmichael has on her paymasters.

HBGKC · 19/10/2023 16:31

Quite, Mavis; that question was posed by Stock.

"Despite the many criticisms of her management career to date, Carmichael remains in post as director of Gids. One of the main whistleblowers at the Tavistock, former staff governor Dr David Bell, told me: “Gids was found in the judicial review to be profoundly deficient in terms of clinical governance and record keeping. It is thus extraordinary that Polly Carmichael has been allowed to remain in position as director.” He described this as “a shocking message to parents and families who have been so damaged by this level of neglect”. "

Unherd have done a YouTube on this with Kathleen Stock. It's 40mins, I've not had time to watch it yet

I’m watching this now, thanks very much for posting the link 👍

MavisMcMinty · 19/10/2023 18:22

Yes, thanks, just watched it. Gids is not fixed yet by any means. The ideologues still rule. What a mess.

I don't know. The 'conversion therapy' gambit keeps being pushed, and I'd rather it was all got out and discussed now in parliament and HoL with all the downsides pulled right out into plain sight and the illusions punctured, than in 18 months if we have Labour in power happily waving any old bull through while identifying as no issues existing.

I also strongly suspect if it gets through the HoC it will be batted around the HoL in detail.

Currently quite split (155 comments).

noraclavicle · 20/10/2023 15:32

I wouldn’t call it split. There are the usual one or two gender zealots (hello Martin Ross!), but the rest are well and truly agreeing with Kathleen Stock, and expressing extreme frustration with the article’s statement that Stock ‘believes that sex is immutable.’ We all know it is!
