The detransitioners: what happens when trans men want to be women again

As “Lee” (Debbie Karemer/Debbie Harries/Lee Harries) points out, “physical detransition” is not an option for many people who have “sex change regret”, whether they are male or female.
One of the problems with counting detransitioners, and why many trans activists claim that it is common for detransitioners to “re-transition”, is that often “detransition” can only be a state of mind or, at best, an unconvincing attempt to present to others as a member of one’s sex.
There is no “going back”, ie. presenting as one would have appeared at this point in time if one had not medicalised with cross-sex hormones and surgery.
It would be too dangerous medically for Lee to attempt to “detransition”.
Ritchie Herron (male detransitioner) has also talked about this issue.
The young female detransitioners we see on TV and YouTube who only need to shave, apply make-up, wear feminine clothes, and perhaps a wig, to “pass” as female are lucky, even if their clothes hide the irreversible evidence of the effects of cross-sex hormones and surgery.
Some detransitioners are criticised for continuing to present as the opposite sex but they do not necessarily have much choice in the matter. Maybe as more people detransition after being medicalised it will become easier for them, as “Third spaces” will become increasingly important?
Detransitioned women who cannot convincingly pass as female do not want to use male facilities but equally would, one hopes, not want to scare the shit out of other women by using women-only toilets and changing rooms.
