Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

It's eye-wateringly lucrative for Mulvaney.

It's remarkably harmful to women but who cares about that.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/10/2023 22:45

Malcolm Clark is brilliant. I follow him on Twitter. He does some really informative threads.

RealityFan · 17/10/2023 23:08

Mulvaney, the entertainment arm of the gender-industrial complex.

Dear MNers, the assault on our senses is on many levels. Including this waif, a gay Broadway musical wannabe, at a stroke seeing his life chances constrict to near zero as lockdown shut the world, eyed up his chance as this grift, and then worked that chance as hard as he could.

I don't suppose even he thought in his wildest dreams that the diversity industry, amongst woke brands, influencers, DEI professional managerial classes etc, even MSM and apparently serious politicos, and a whole pantheon of luxury beliefs-holding women, would so celebrate him, and line his pockets at fortunes beyond avarice.

nepeta · 17/10/2023 23:16

I remember seeing the TikTok of Mulvaney's first day 'as a girl'. As it ridiculed being female, as Clark so well describes, and as many of the later ones ridiculed being a teen girl (falling over outside because of trying to escape a flying insect in high heels while enjoying nature), I thought the whole thing was a spoof.

If it is one, the joke is on us, of course, as now making fun of women earns a male person lots of money, publicity and awards, not just from the right but also from the political left.

It's odd how rapidly ridiculing women and girls returned to being quite acceptable (after a few decades when it was less so). Even pointing out that many drag queen acts are all about that ridicule is defined as bigotry!

"We need to stop enabling Dylan Mulvaney"

Well ok, why not start by stop talking about her?

fedupandstuck · 18/10/2023 01:42

Was this absolutely necessary? Feels like being mean for the sake of being mean at this point.

fedupandstuck · 18/10/2023 01:47

Necessary and factual. Not in the slightest bit interested in whether anyone finds it mean.

AFieldGuideToTrees · 18/10/2023 01:57

Glad I'm not the only one who believes he's a grifter who tapped into the zeitgeist and struck gold!

Yes it is absolutely necessary. That's the whole point of the article and the thread.

Was this absolutely necessary? Feels like being mean for the sake of being mean at this point.

Or, factual. Naming what a woman is, and isn’t is not mean. It’s biological reality. Chastising women for naming what and who they are, goes beyond mean.

Surely you are being ironic?

dunBle · 18/10/2023 05:10

Someone really should've told Dylan that if you go from dark to blonde, you probably need to change the colour palette of your make-up. Smoky eyes and dark lips may look sultry on a brunette, but risks making you look like one of the undead if you're blonde and pale.

EdgeOfACoin · 18/10/2023 06:15

My first day as a girl and I’ve already cried three times. I wrote a scathing email that I did not send, I ordered dresses online that I could not afford. And then, when someone asked how I was, I said I was fine when I wasn’t.

Stephannee do you think this is typical female behaviour? Do you think women generally act like this? Is this what is meant by the "innate gender identity" that all women apparently share?

mirax · 18/10/2023 06:30

Him. Him. Him.

But he’s a bloke. Why would we call him otherwise?

Maaate · 18/10/2023 07:45

Dylan Mulvaney is a man.

A misogynistic grifter of a man.

The fall out once his time in the spotlight is done and the genderborg turn on him is going to be epic.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 18/10/2023 07:51

Oh no not meeeeeaaan! Bad bad women

men are pushing their way into our spaces, taking up places on programmes designed to increase female representation, injuring women in sport, taking places in rape survivor support groups, heckling survivors of FGM, holding up
placards saying “decapitate TERFS”

but we mustnt be meeeeeaann and point out Dylan is a man

Spot on.

I don't think Mulvaney thinks he's a woman any more than I do. He can't stop though, it's too lucrative. But it's clear parody. Emperor's new clothes. He's laughing all the way to the bank.

I bet he daily wonders how some of the most powerful people in the land can be so gullible - it's really worrying since some of them have power over actual nuclear weapons. Convincing them to blow up the world is probably a little bit less difficult than convincing them an obvious man parodying womanhood - like Dylan - is actually a woman. I suppose the difference is that the actual grown up realists in the room might step in when it comes to nuclear war whereas those (mostly male) realists don't really care about women's and children's rights. I hope so at least, depressing though that is.

theDudesmummy · 18/10/2023 08:03

@Stephannee yes it was "absolutely necessary". HTH.

theDudesmummy · 18/10/2023 08:06

I have wondered for a while whether he is actually a mole for our side, his act originally intended as clear parody to point out the absurdities of the TRA position (but then it got so lucrative he ran with it further than he ever thought he could).

I don’t usually comment on appearance but I saw that photo and for the first brief second genuinely all I could see was one of the Gentlemen (ironically) from the Buffy episode ‘Hush’.

Cappuccinfortwo · 18/10/2023 08:13

I would bet that he regrets his success tbh as there is no easy way out now. I can't see this ending well for anyone.

He recently talked about starting to feel more male, so if he morphs into being gender fluid, then quietly disappears into being a man he'll be fine.

He must be made for life.
