Trans Rally In Nottingham Yesterday

Did you know there was one?

At speakers corner (which appears to be a statue)

What there was: about 200 women with short hair and men in dresses. Some were draped in trans flags, some held cardboard signs. Some spoke on various subjects and were listened to, then clapped and occasionally cheered.

What there wasn't: anyone dressed in black, masked, trying to drown out the speakers or physically intimidate them. Much of a police presence (wasn't needed). Any signs threatening the speakers with violence. Anyone throwing stuff at the speakers or the crowd.

Funny that. But "both sides" eh? 🙄

And presumably no stink bombs / smoke bombs either? Strange.

PriOn1 · 16/10/2023 10:40

There wasn’t a group of women there, creating an atmosphere of fear, demanding genocide and making noise to drown out their words?

You do surprise me!

Froodwithatowel · 16/10/2023 10:41

Gosh. It's almost like women in search of equality of rights and access don't care, are perfectly happy for them to meet and talk about whatever they want wherever they want and when they want, and don't behave like a bunch of thugs.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 16/10/2023 10:43

What? No one holding up placards saying 'punch trans people in the face'?! I'm shocked.

fedupandstuck · 16/10/2023 10:46

Apparently they were protesting "govt plans to complicate trans peoples access to healthcare" and "the latest transphobic remarks from Tory MPs", according to X/Twitter.

Nice to hear that women were able to speak without being threatened, harassed, kettled, physically intimidated or assaulted. Would be nice if that could be extended to women that have different opinions to the ones voiced at this small rally yesterday!

EmpressaurusOfCats · 16/10/2023 10:49

To be fair, Sarah Jane Baker telling people to punch TERFs was judged to be absolutely fine because Baker was only joking & got a bit carried away. So I’m sure any ‘Punch Trans’ placards would have been viewed in exactly the same way.

I didn't know about this rally 😳

If only I'd known I'd have done nothing different and let them get on with it.

You'll see here that at some events, there was discussion about actively supporting discussion by sending along some Mumsnet catering.

Same. If only they'd do us the same courtesy.

Froodwithatowel · 16/10/2023 17:29

I'll happily pop along with ribena and jammy dodgers any time.

Justwrong68 · 16/10/2023 17:37

Was there a little grey haired old dear shouting FUCK YOU through a loud haler?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/10/2023 17:43

Was there a menopausal women doing pelvic thrusts in the path of people trying to get to the meeting place?

Helleofabore · 16/10/2023 17:44

Remarkable! I wonder if they honestly thought that women would turn up and protest them and that was why police were necessary?

I also wonder if the lack of symmetry has sunk in yet? At all? Right side of history? Fuck that.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/10/2023 17:51

Reminds me of these two pictures taken during the trial of Tara Wolf for assaulting Maria MacLachlan. Guess which side each set of supporters were on.

Weren't Sisters Uncut at the courthouse to support poor , oppressed Tara Wolf?

And where is he now....last I heard he was an MMA fighter. Not my cuppa but has to be better than assaulting 60 year old ladies.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/10/2023 18:02

Yes I think TW went out to Thailand to be a Thai boxer at one point. Fighting men IIRC.

IcakethereforeIam · 16/10/2023 18:16

He seems to have fought at least other woman, another Maria.

Spoiler

He seems to have spent much of the fight walking backwards and got beaten. As well as height, reach, muscle and weight he needs at least a 30-odd year advantage to not get his ass kicked.
