For all I know some trans rights protestors were also led away, but from reading the article it seems that only a woman (who happens to be Elaine Miller) is stopped from exercsing her right to protest.

What a surprise.

However, police had to intervene after [Elaine] Miller crossed the road dividing the two sides and attempted to confront the trans rights protest.

It seems Police led her away before escorting her to the venue. Doesn't look like any charges are in question. As ever tho', it's quite the skewed reporting of the event.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/10/2023 01:24

It seems like they're just trying to spin their reporting of FiLiA out as long as possible with this non-story. They have already reported on the attempted cancellation, the u turn and the Tom Harlow nonsense.

IwantToRetire · 15/10/2023 01:59

It seems Police led her away before escorting her to the venue.

But one woman approaching a group of protestors surely is less of a threat than a whole crowd shouting at women in Liverpool, but none of them were escorted away.

That's the issue.

Or do the police think one woman is more potentially threatening than over 100(?) men shouting at women.

That's the news.

Article is behind a paywall, but from the description it seems the police were enforcing a separation between the two groups in order to ensure safety and smooth access to the conference? Which sounds way better than most police forces have managed when TRAs are protesting women gathering to discuss women’s rights.

Rainbowshit · 15/10/2023 06:04

The article is surprisingly balanced for the National. The bloke with the microphone was saying that Elaine Miller had assaulted him previously and asking the police to remove her. 🤔 I don't think so dude.

Rainbowshit · 15/10/2023 06:24

I guess Steohen Paton wasn't available to provide their usual TRA spin.

PriOn1 · 15/10/2023 08:22

I would imagine police might have moved her away from them for her own protection and to avoid the situation kicking off.

If their aim is to keep the two groups separate and the transactivists are standing in the area allocated to them, then Elaine is the correct person to move on.

Yes.

Whatever the actual facts of the situation, which will be hidden behind the usual multiple layers of rainbowed tat from most of the media, the optics are very helpful, picture paints a thousand words etc and sticks in the memory.

Large crowd of mostly blokes shouting threats and filth with police looking the other way and pretending not to be there. Woman not looking like an escaped member of the local youth drama club and not shouting obscenities or threats or waving bits of wood or her genitals, walking quietly as she is led away by several police. Who apparently felt much safer to feel her collar, and who can blame them.

Complete supposition. You were not there to make the decision. So its all speculation. I trust the police were doing their job and trying to keep both groups apart, as there is never any common ground between them. All they can do is contain anyone who transgresses. To speculate otherwise, when you dont have the facts. Well anyone could speculate on anything...

I was there and video is on twitter.

Elaine went to speak / pose in front of protesters on opposite side of road from entrance. Police asked her to not engage and walked with her away from protesters. That is all
