Jesus the comments...

"I'd say requiring someone to have surgery to conform to others' standards of womanhood to exist in public gendered spaces is pretty invasive."

"Other's standards" of womanhood eh?
As opposed to what... Long hair..? Makeup...? Panties & hosiery rather than boxers?
What should the 'standard' be in their eyes, literally just saying so?

If my eyes rolled any more, they'd fall out.

GailBlancheViola · 12/10/2023 19:56

The sheer unmitigated rubbish that pours forth from TRAs.

ArabellaScott · 12/10/2023 20:10

Well I have joined up and it seems nice. There's a hiking group! Who knew?!

Just a thought? What if a "gender critical" person were to speak at such an event and on the day all the venue staff suddenly said they felt ill and had to go home?

I think there is an argument for especially smaller businesses, not having to be involved in activities that they view as unethical.

But really, if they can't handle people saying things that everyone believed up until 5 minutes ago, then it's difficult to see that they have much of a commitment to democracy and free speech.

ArabellaScott · 12/10/2023 20:24

Filia has been booked for months. The venue will have been well aware what the event involved.

It's only because they've been terrorised that they've tried to cancel.

I'd say 'the standard' is being born female.

I would think the venue would have to take all reasonable steps not to allow their employees to discriminate either - so warn of disciplinary sanctions etc

That appears to be likely what the Stand staff were told so resorted to such unedifying behaviour as being rude to paying customers, making disruptive noise and projecting a message onto the backdrop once the event was over.

All because someone they disagreed with 1) spoke and 2) dared to offer a microphone for anyone (including themselves) to make comments/ask questions.

Grown adults having toddler temper tantrums basically.

SpicyMoth · 12/10/2023 21:26

Page won't load for me anymore, that the same for anyone else?

Edit; Seems the OP blocked me simply for saying that I think both sides have extremists and that "no debate" rhetoric is making matters worse. Even impartiality is transphobic it seems... 😱

I wonder why

334bu · 12/10/2023 21:38

The venue has been well aware of the cintent of the conference, however ,by leaving it till the last moment to try and cancel, they can say to the TRAs , poor us we couldn't do anything else, while still gaining the custom of over 1000 -1500 women . Maybe, however, those same 1000 + women should avail themselves of all of the other myriad places in the vicinity to eat and drink., as this venue doesn't seem to really want our custom.

Presumably the incessant bullying of women has been noticed and decent people have taken a stand?

yourhairiswinterfire · 12/10/2023 21:40

Okay, I'll try again without being snippy...

Every single staff member suddenly 'falling ill' at the same time, on the day an event their venue had already attempted to unlawfully cancel is due to take place, is not a clever way to get around not being allowed to unlawfully discriminate against people.

IIRC, when it was suggested that the staff at The Stand should try this as a way to de-platform Joanna Cherry (after The Stand had accepted they were discriminating and reversed the cancellation), some lawyers said that this would then allow the person discriminated against to sue the staff members individually, along with the venue for allowing their staff to discriminate.

And it's not just gender critical women that speak at FiLiA events. The most amazing women come from all over the world to speak about femicide, FGM, forced abortion, rape, sex trafficking, torture, oppression, and many other problems affecting women and girls worldwide, right now.

But instead of actually listening to what these speakers have to say, some TRAs are just so desperate to stop their voices being heard. They've previously protested by holding signs that demand ''suck my cock you transphobic cunt'' as these women talk of rape, as they talk of how when they were just little girls they were taken to have their genitals mutilated with rusty tools and no pain relief. They attempt to deny these women a supportive place to speak about these issues. Why? How does muzzling oppressed women help trans rights?

or maybe because the mods got a tip-off they were going to receive a pile-on from a certain forum (i.e. here)?

Debating on reddit is fine, but the mods generally dislike having to babysit so they often lock threads where toys are being thrown around.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/10/2023 17:47

The heartrending plight of the person who manages venues, having come to the realisation that since Maya Forstater's appeal win it's not legal for him to discriminate against women he doesn't like for their feminist views, despite all misleading TRA propaganda to the contrary 🎻

Some nice xenophobia in this reply:

"That is the fucking most British thing possible "oh we cant deplatform bigotry because being a bigot is protected under the law, but aren't we progressive for only making bigotry against certain minorities protected"."

Personally I like being from a country where it isn't illegal to say that humans can't change sex, and where women are actually fighting back against this assault on their rights.

Well. I guess that if an employer had to hire temporary staff to cover the shift, those employees might find their jobs on shaky grounds due to unprofessional behaviour. if a small business cannot rely on its staff to act professionally towards customers, I expect that business will have to hire people who are reliable and professional.

ApocalipstickNow · 12/10/2023 21:51

If it hasn’t been clear up until now it should be absolutely crystal that what these MRAs want is women to shut up talking about their oppression or lives or anything in actual fact.

When you demand women stop talking about their appalling experiences of FGM you should at least have the guts to own your misogyny.

Debating on Reddit is fine, as long as you don't disagree with gender ideology in any way. Then you get deleted and banned.

LOL they'd have needed to lock it at the start then. Lots of whining from the TRAs about women's freedom of speech and association.

SpicyMoth · 12/10/2023 21:57

Just browsing through the comments again, can anyone at all explain the rationale between the lines "They literally believe trans people don't exist" and things similar? I've yet to be able to understand that part at all.

Who has EVER been on record saying that? Is there even anyone?
Obviously trans people exist.
The point of contention is the biology aspect and that there's more to being a woman than makeup and heels.

It always just gives off vibes of "It's not a phase mum!" teenage melodrama x-x

Edited

It's so fucking stupid.

If we didn't believe trans people existed we wouldn't care which toilets they were using or which sporting categories they were competing in.

ApocalipstickNow · 12/10/2023 22:02

And it’s interesting that Mumsnet don’t lock threads to prevent MRAs posting. You’re welcome as long as you stick to the talk guidelines. I’ve never heard that the MRAs and TRAs have struggled to phrase their posts in the way the feminists have to avoid deletion. Just ease off on the personal attacks and abuse and you’re free to post any arguments you can muster.

It’s just none of you ever can. It’s either cries of “too much bigotry!” (With no evidence) “science has changed!” (With no evidence) or flat out lies about what GC feminists are saying.

Christ, posters are even resorting to asking if a thread should be made where gender critical posters argue your case for you because your own arguments are so piss weak!

JanesLittleGirl · 12/10/2023 22:03

@Stephannee What point are you actually trying to argue?

I was about to post similar - grown adults saying 'the nasty ladies are talking and I don't want them to! Waaah!'

Footstamp, flail arms, angry surfboard, cross arms, huff. Quite a few of us have dealt with toddler tantrums, unfortunately for the TRA's.
