If you put female, they will prob use Miss Dior or some such; if you put 'male' they will use Johnny Depp's Sauvage (or the dog variant, Sausage).

I'm sure there are plenty of non-binary fragrances they can work with, if you indicate this is your dog's preference.

Haha I can beat that - pet insurance quote asked me to say the dog's gender. They of all people should understand that's the wrong question.....

I watched the Ruth Bader Ginsberg biopic ' on the basis of sex' where it was considered polite to use the term gender as the word sex was too prurient. We all know separation of the meaning of those 2 words has allowed bad actors to step in and muddy the waters.
I say we reintegrate the words and use the word identity for accuracy. My cat is currently identifying as solar powered and on charge, we're very eco here.

Female dogs are probably misgendered more often than transwomen

Sausage dogs do smell nicer than most other types, and they're good at digging

Here’s Maggie. She was assigned female at birth but as you can see she identifies as a twat sometimes as well.

My idiot collie thinks he's a cat. I blame our three cats who treated him like an oversized kitten. Even to the point of bringing in mice and trying to teach him to hunt / kill them.

So he sits draped on the sofa like a cat. Wreathes himself around legs amd tries to sit on shoulders like one. Actual cat (unfortunately our others have died) tries to keep him in line. Always hilarious when large collie does exactly as small, elegant puss tells him. DH not so impressed when said cat pushed the entire plate of pork crackling off the worktop, helped herself to pieces and pushed the rest to the dog.

Maybe Chendog feels he's a cat, too?

I've said it before but I think the main reason the word gender has been so widely embraced is because prudish Brits don't like saying the S word!

Since losing our old boy last year, DH and I are tempted at times. As there's a finite chance of being bitten on the nose we've resisted thus far.

Believe it or not veterinary practice management systems, which all vets use to store your pets clinical records, also have gender rather than sex on the patient details file. It's been irritating me for quite some time! I think it changed from sex around 10 years ago.

OK, in the interests of amusing myself whilst feeling illscience, I have spent the morning trying to interpret my Dog's gender and pronouns. The pronouns thing is tricky since (through no fault of his own) he is not currently able to use human words, but I think I have worked it out on the basis of body language and how enthusiastically he responds. In human word terms his pronouns seem to be good boy/dinner, however, his pronouns actually transcend human language and are more accurately [sound of dog food cupboard opening] / [sound of cheese being unwrapped]. This shows the importance of not making assumptions as based on appearances and behaviour alone he is often mis-named as 'that bloody thieving dog' and 'get off, that's my cheese'.

Maggie is French but identifies as British perhaps?

The vet asked me when I was booking an appt. I said I don't know what he identifies as but his sex is male. Just to make the point that it's the wrong terminology.
