I’ve been asked my dog’s gender for a course we’re going on

I’m thinking ‘trans cat’?

Or should this be in The Doghouse board? Confused Either way, I feel like there’s no escape from this madness.

My cat is debating whether the most appropriate pronoun is 'His Majesty' or 'His Imperial Majesty'. He will issue a decree in due course.

Sire/My Liege, surely?

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 06/10/2023 23:16

Mine identifies as a tiny, but very bossy dictator

I know you were joking about your dog being a “trans cat” but I did actually have a puppy whose mother abandoned the whole litter and he was the only puppy to survive. So we fostered him and he was raised by or cat. He played like a cat (with the cat), he pounced on toys like a cat, he didnt bark but “rumbles” like he’s trying to purr and when he is vocal his yips are mimicking cat loud meows for food, washed himself like he was a cat.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 06/10/2023 23:19

Surely you say non-binary, and leave them to puzzle out how the dog let you know?

DiscoBeat · 06/10/2023 23:23

With scent training the males have different noses to females I think, so it's not as daft as it seems for them to ask.

Nottheeightoutoftencats · 06/10/2023 23:33

I have been trying to sort out insurance for my two new kittens - about half of the sites I have got quotes from have asked my pets 'gender' neither of the small monsters have stated their preferred pronouns if I was asked to guess I would go for greedy/bastard and small/mighty.
Sadly despite asking for the gender of animals they have all only given two options - male or female which shows a ignorance of the 70+ genders out there and of cat culture which demands a minimum of grand high poobah rising to supreme majisty.

But they asked for gender.
What sort of scent you wear might be related to 'gender', nothing to do with what you can smell.

But surely that's to do with sex not gender? How can any pet have a 'gender' identity!??

He was an adorable dog. He and our cat always slept together. We ended up adopting him permanently because they bonded so well and he and cat lived to a ripe old age.

What the others said. His sex is male - his gender is who the heck knows, he’s a dog.

Or is he…

Kind regards,

My parents had a dog whose mother raised a litter of kittens with her puppies, she did not like other dogs at all.

Cats though,they were her people.

Chersfrozenface · 07/10/2023 09:33

Of course we all know that the question means sex but whoever framed the question has gone all queasy about the word 'sex:.

Everywhere you look it's "boy dog" and "girl dog" - can't use the word "bitch". But i thought that was just some ordinary people being mimsy. I'd have thought anyone running a course would be proper dog people and use words like "sex" and "bitch".

What next? Classes at the Royal Welsh Show for "Lady Holsteins"?

Definitelyrandom · 07/10/2023 10:11

Our retired greyhound is neutered, so is “he” transitioning? Otherwise “he” definitely identifies as a domestic cat at home and a cheetah when he runs.

Justme56 · 07/10/2023 10:36

Our Irish vet refers to our dog as ‘a little monkey’ so she has definitely transed species. He’s lovely but we do find it amusing.
