Man who sexually assaulted seven women 'wore women’s clothing to lure his victims'

From the CPS:

'A man who sexually assaulted seven women on the streets late at night has been sentenced to a period of 20 months imprisonment suspended for two years.
Ali Ay, 42, targeted women walking alone on the streets of north London in Kentish Town, Islington and Archway on seven separate occasions over a two-year period.
Between April 2019 and October 2021, he approached the victims whilst dressed in women’s clothing, including tutus, fishnets and tights before exposing prosthetic male genitals and sexually assaulting a number of his targets.
Ay showed some of the victims images of male genitalia as he attempted to engage them in conversation.
CCTV was used to identify the vehicle used by Ay which was traced back to his home address.
Ay was arrested at his home address in October 2021, where police uncovered a number of female items of clothing and sex toys that were present during his attacks.
Ay attended Snaresbrook Crown Court on 8 September 2023 where he was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment suspended for two years and made subject to a Sexual Harm Protection Order for eight years.
Melissa Garner, from the CPS, said: “Ali Ay accosted his victims whilst they walked alone late at night in north London.
“He wore women’s clothing to lure his victims and make them initially feel at ease in his company. He told them that he was gay and that they should not be frightened. He then took the opportunity to sexually assault a number of them.
“The prosecution case included CCTV footage and strong witness testimony. We were also able to present a number of the items used by Ay in the attacks including tights and tutus.
“Women should feel safe to walk the streets without fear of attack. The CPS remain committed to prosecuting sexual offenders.”'

Apparently this case has been referred to the unduly lenient sentence scheme.

ArabellaScott · 06/10/2023 13:15

Good.

That sentence is an absolute joke!

This is disturbing. Potentially giving access to vulnerable women.

There’s no suggestion he is actually identifying as a trans woman so bit of a red herring in the trans argument.

Interesting that you were so quick to comment, yet have clearly read/ understood very little on this board.

As you've brought up "trans" I'll say that this kind of criminal will only be further enabled by the fact we've taught a generation of kids never to question the intention of any males larping as female. That to question - even internally - any single thing about where they are or what they are doing or why they are doing it could be...... TRANSPHOBIC. And that to be transphobic is the worst of all crimes.

Brefugee · 06/10/2023 13:46

it is more than infuriating. Because THIS is what we have been saying, until we're blue in the face.

We don't know which men are the bad ones. And therefore ALL men, even the ones in wigs, dresses and high heels, have to stay out of our spaces. All of them.

I mean, my DH is fantastic (seriously, he is great) but i don't want him going in the women's sauna.

If he turns up for landlord inspections as a male in women's clothing I can guarantee he will get away with all manner of boundary violation and power abuse.

Trans rights ideology has been quite successful in making sure young ideological women ignore red flags lest they be like the hags/ Karens/ witches/TERFS.

“Women should feel safe to walk the streets without fear of attack.

And yes this prolific sex attacker has been let off to do it again

Well, the first response to my post was pretty much doing exactly that. Dismissing it by invoking 'trans'.

I don't think fishnets and a tutu are really a disguise though, it'd clearly be a creepy man in fetish-y clothes. I can see the "I'm gay," comment might be to try and mitigate the reactions to his clothing, as if they are more drag queen than creeper.

From what's written? I think he was showing them a huge, penis shaped dildo, getting off on their shock and discomfort.

He won't have been 'disguised' as a woman, I agree. It's possible he was 'disguised' as a transwoman, drag queen, or cross dresser.

It may have ben a "disguise" but IMO quite probably not

I'm sure the outfit was/is an essential part of his kink. He may just think, with some justification, that dressing like that is now normalised, accepted, unexceptional and wouldn't be regarded as creepy so wouldn't scare off women and girls on the street.

ArabellaScott · 06/10/2023 14:20

True. I think the crucial thing is whether his outfit did, as the CPS say, 'make them initially feel at ease in his company'.

Especially as he is said to have told at least some that he was gay. "Oh, a gay guy in drag, no threat" thought process.

Unfortunately, his victims now know better. Let's hope any women and girls reading about it learn from the case, too - if they get a chance to read about it, of course.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 06/10/2023 14:34

Sexually assaulting 7 women doesn't warrant a prison sentence? Of course, silly me expecting the judiciary to take sexual assault of women seriously.
😡

There’s no suggestion he is actually identifying as a trans woman so bit of a red herring in the trans argument.

So according to you, man dressed as woman identifies as a woman in his head = no danger
and man dressed as woman who doesn’t identify as a woman = danger, is that it?
remind me again how I read his mind, even if this isn’t all bollocks (it is).

maltravers · 06/10/2023 14:47

I thought cross dressing = trans anyway, according to St Stonewall the Divine?

So The Islington Gazette is not mainstream media then 🙄?

Oh it is

Though the latest circulation figure I can find for it is less than 4,500.

Don't meant to derail but the government rape Tsar (unfortunate title ) has quit and app is returning to the US claiming she feels safer there.
I can't imagine feeling safer in a country with rampant gun crime but it seems she thinks the crime of rape is treated more seriously there?

These women weren't raped but they were sexually assaulted and other cases suggest a person's behaviour may escalate from exposure crimes to more seriously dangerous behaviour.

Sentencing should reflect the evidence.

I wouldn't feel at all "at ease." I wonder how readily a woman who walked away and refused to go over might be accused of a hate crime, however.

RavingStone · 06/10/2023 16:10

Oh I've just remembered where else I've heard about prosthetic dicks used to intimidate women: TRAs protesting - I think - the Labour women's group meeting in West London a few years ago.

Mocking our fear of men, simultaneously reminding us what they can do to us, pretty much unpunished.
