It's that time if year when I have to click through the utter tedium of CPD courses.
I was not hopeful after the last time I did it. I think it got worse. Only passing mention of sexism issues (and part of that saying men can be sexually harassed....true but wasn't very balanced). There were pages about trans issues.
Pretty sure what they are training thousands of employees with is incorrect.
"Everyone has pronouns based on their gender identity. It is not possible to know someone's gender identity so we shouldn't make assumptions about a person's pronouns from their appearance, voice, or characteristics."
Yep, don't agree. Not everyone does.
And worse.....
"Trans and non-binary staff often face particular challenges with changing personal details on institutional records, confusion over use of single sex toilets/changing facilities appropriate for their affirmed gender (it is in fact legal for people to use whichever facility they feel most comfortable with), and misunderstandings of the duties imposed on Universities by the presentation of a Gender Recognition Certificate."
They talked about conflicting views elsewhere but this is bit is just misleading isn't it? I thought I knew the law but even I'm starting to get confused!
It is so frustrating when you know lots of colleagues are being intentionally mislead.
