Lammy says Labour have to be a "teeny bit conservative"

But why only a teeny bit? Just go the whole hog and dismiss the concerns of half the population. Perhaps by calling them rights hoarding dinosaurs or some such.

"He told Cliveden Literary Festival on Saturday: “The Labour Party has got to be guided by the fact that on the whole we are not the natural party of governance in this country.”
Mr Lammy told an audience that in the 123 years since 1900, his party had only won eight times in 32 elections, with only three leaderss_.
“That means we have to be naturally a little teeny bit conservative in the way that we approach the election,” he added."

That weasel … will never forget when he said that TW could grow a cervix.

But while Lammy may not know much about biology, or women, and treat us as useful idiots, his longevity as a politician suggests that he knows a thing or two about politics. If Lammy means that Labour will move away from certain very divisive identity-related policies and reality-denial, then that is welcome, but I will only believe it if I see real change in the party’s platform. Until then …

Froodwithatowel · 30/09/2023 21:23

Nah, I'm a dinosaur mate. Hoarding my vote. Try seeing women as equally human, demonstrate a capacity to cope with actual reality, and don't put yourself in hock to an extremist religious movement actively prejudiced against multiple vulnerable groups and pushing to have them turned into a subordinated class punished into their place in law?

And I might think about handing you a vote as opposed to a strait jacket.

MargotBamborough · 30/09/2023 21:45

David Lammy has always been a bit conservative. 20 years ago he stood up in Parliament and delivered a passionate speech about how male aristocrats shouldn't lose their inheritance if they become legally a woman or their older sister becomes legally a man.

If that's not conservative, I don't know what is.

DelurkingLawyer · 30/09/2023 21:50

Lammy’s a moron. The reason he has political longevity is because he was handed a safe London Labour seat, so he’ll be a politician for as long as he wants to be. It’s a standing joke in Labour circles that he’s shadow Foreign Secretary but about the least diplomatic person you can imagine.

The only reason he stays on the shadow front bench is because nobody really cares about or listens much to what most of the shadow front bench says so most of his rudeness or faux pas don’t get reported as as they should. Six months in power and he’ll put his foot in it and get shuffled off elsewhere.

This.

Brilliant. Thank you.

I wonder what he was getting at when he said that. It almost sounds like a criticism of the electorate doesn’t it?

Yeah. To me it sounds like it might be paving the way to start reneging on some of Labour's long standing policies on the grounds that they need the public to vote them in and the public are too bigoted conservative to support those policies.

I still won't vote for them unless people like him apologise though. And recognise that there are non bigoted reasons for women to want penis free spaces.

EdgeOfACoin · 01/10/2023 07:12

Aren't conservatives rights-hoarding dinosaurs? Or is that just women?

ResisterRex · 01/10/2023 07:19

Or does it mean: pretend to be what you're not, to gain trust and access (to votes). Then change direction? Who knows.

That Poundshop Tommy J. Curry is a classic conservative. He's always gone on about how awful things are for black men, how there aren't enough black men in Parliament (not sure how he knows this, there could be loads of shy self-ID'd ones) and on and on. Sure, yeah, it's true - but no concern or sympathy for, for example, black women? Nope. Just not on his radar except possibly as the accidental and undeserving beneficiaries of affirmative action. (This attitude also probably explains why he doesn't know the difference between a cervix and a clitoris - why should he?)

Lammy can swing

Who knows, indeed. If you will lie about whether a woman can have a penis I have to assume you will lie about anything.

Froodwithatowel · 01/10/2023 12:18

Or if you are deluded enough to believe that humans can change sex, or sufficiently gullible or mercenary to be manipulated by an extremist religious lobby to the point of being their mouthpiece?

I have to wonder what other movement could come along and puppet you, and who else's human rights would you be prepared to ditch for the personal benefits involved?

MargotBamborough · 01/10/2023 12:23

I mean, I am assuming they are all lying.

If you're stupid enough to actually believe a woman can have a penis, you probably shouldn't be allowed to use scissors.

Highandlows · 01/10/2023 13:09

When Labour get rid of people like David Lammy I may consider to vote for them.

TeiTetua · 01/10/2023 13:20

If Labour actually wanted to get elected and be a credible government, they would take a serious look at the last time they achieved that, in the Tony Blair years. A moderate and non-ideological kind of socialism, and people mostly liked it (until that incomprehensible war). But the memory of Corbyn and the influence of the trans activists are toxic items that Labour seems unable to drop.

ILikeDungs · 01/10/2023 13:20

I mean, I am assuming they are all lying.

He was found to be lying about women's rights. During the last election campaign he said it was an issue that was never brought up on the doorstep. Nobody mentions it. Nada. Then a woman came forward (on MN I think) and said that he had stood on her doorstep, she brought up the erosion of women's rights, and he comforted her and said her rights were safe with Labour.

He also was an enthusiastic supporter of the GRA when it was being debated in the House. He is either very very stupid or "in deep" and lying.

I hadn't thought David Lammy was anything other than a champagne socialist.

"The application was passed"

Presumably the flats identify as a family home.

Obviously he's copying his leader. Starmer is becoming infamous for his quick direction changes. And lies.

Froodwithatowel · 01/10/2023 13:38

The problem was though that it was mostly making nice noises about being nice, moderate socialism and 'sending messages' while hosing money everywhere. It lasted until the money was gone and everyone had seen through the marketing.

There's no clever and fast talking car salesman at the front this time, and a lot of Lammys in the rank who are high on exciting theory and not much else. I mean if you're thick enough to call women fighting the loss of their equality 'dinosaurs hording rights', and then expect you can say 'oh we'll be a teeny bit conservative' and those women will do what you want? I wouldn't trust you to run a chess club, never mind a country.

Thank you for this. I now have to wipe the sofa clean from the tea I sprayed all over it by laughing.

It is ridiculous isn’t it. And yes I know about the DSD exceptions but we all know it’s not about that.
