Transwoman quoted in the Stage claims to have been a trending topic on Mumsnet last week and to have received 'literally thousands of messages calling them a paedophile'

This was in an article in the Stage today. I don't remember this thread, and I've done several advanced searches and can't see any mention at all of this person in the past year even.

Is this a complete lie?

I've copied and pasted the full text of the article below, and will also post a screenshot.

Horrific’ transphobic abuse on the rise, theatremakers warnNEWSSEP 29, 2023BY GIVERNY MASSO

Creatives have warned that "horrific" online transphobic abuse of theatremakers is on the rise, claiming abusers are threatening physical violence and putting them on ’watch lists’.
The theatremakers said that while transphobia was a societal rather than specifically a theatre issue, theatremakers and performers were often a target because they were more visible on social media.
Actor, intimacy co-ordinator and LGBT+ consultant Tigger Blaize said there had been a rise in online abuse over the past 14 months, while others outlined recent incidents of experiencing harassment on social media.
Blaize told The Stage: "Online transphobic abuse is getting worse for trans and gender nonconforming people in many ways, and that includes workers, and some of those workers will be performers.
"I have noticed a rise in it particularly over the last 14 months, beginning last summer with a sudden awareness of the drag story hour protests outside libraries by the far right."
Blaize suggested the increase in abuse had been fuelled by a "hostile mainstream media that spreads lies and misinformation about trans people" and a right-wing government "which appears to be trying to roll back our human rights" as well as "social media companies who refuse to tackle accounts that repeatedly attack marginalised groups".
He said: "It’s clear that the impact [of abuse] on performers’ working lives as well as their lives outside the workplace is hugely detrimental to their mental health, and in some cases their physical well-being."

Blaize, who is also the vice chair of Equity’s LGBT+ committee, added: "Two artists I know have been threatened with acid attacks, and both have had to move house, both have a direct link to the police in the event of threats of attack."
Actor, poet and movement director EM Williams described transphobic online abuse as a "really big" issue.
They said: "Trans femmes are getting it the worst for sure. They are scapegoated for being ‘cosplaying men who are there to harass women’, which is obviously putting the focus on the wrong person and wrong demographic again.
"Because it’s cis male violence that they’re talking about, but for some reason they’ve included trans women in that, and it’s absolutely wild to me."
Williams also told The Stage of being subject to online abuse when they posted on social media in support of a show that was receiving criticism: "I put a post out – something along the lines of: ‘Why do we want our children to live in shame of their bodies?’ – and I got hounded and had to delete that.
"I wasn’t able to express my free speech on what I felt around an issue that is completely unrelated to me being trans, but they made it about me being trans."
Williams said that people contacted their agent, threatened to come to the theatre they were performing at and find them, and put them on a "watch list".
As a result, Williams had been forced to "[think] a lot more about what [they] put on the internet".
Williams added that online abuse such as this was a factor contributing to mental health issues and higher suicide rates among trans and queer people.
Meanwhile, writer and performer Tabby Lamb said: "I think it’s horrific. It’s one of the things that I have to consider a lot when making work. I would say it’s probably one of the main reasons I don’t act anymore."
Lamb also recalled the transphobic abuse she had experienced, adding: "I’ve had shows that have been protested, we’ve had TERFs [trans-exclusionary radical feminists] book tickets and turn up and start booing and screaming.
"Online, literally last week, I was one of the top trending topics on Mumsnet [...] and I had thousands, literally thousands of people in my [messages] calling me a paedophile and an abuser, because I’m making a show with young people about swimming as a trans person."
Lamb added that the abuse was "so much worse" for trans people of colour.
She also agreed that a rise in such abuse had been fuelled by what she described as "a government that hates trans people".
Mike Lee, executive producer for theatre company Hive North, said that a cast member on the company’s upcoming show – Jock Night at Seven Dials Playhouse – had received online abuse simply for being a vocal trans ally.
The cast member, David Paisley, had been targeted on social media after a cast announcement went out.
Lee said that the venue had "been really good" and had undergone scenario planning to ensure the show goes ahead.
In terms of what theatre companies can be doing to support transgender and gender nonconfirming artists, Blaize called for them to stand by decisions to cast trans performers and performers who speak out publicly, to cast authentically in all roles of marginalised identity and to provide trans awareness training for companies and venue staff.
Lamb and Williams both urged theatre companies to ensure safe transport to and from venues for company members who are at risk, while Lamb also called for therapy and emotional support to be provided to transgender company members.

Seriously - Tabby Lamb and Tigger? I think we know what territory we are in here with names like those.

I see David Paisley gets a mention. You will probably recall it was he who reported the threatening haberdashery that was arranged to look like a noose near where he was working. Apart from it looked nothing like a noose, of course, but the police took him seriously. After all, what burly Scotsman isn't scared of ribbons?

I suppose it's good really that theatremakers (I think that was the term used) have such splendid imaginations.

It's possible that there was a thread that got deleted, but it's pretty unusual for a FWR thread to be a top trend, and I'm sure at least someone here would have noticed it. There's almost nothing on Twitter apart from this: https://twitter.com/leakylike/status/1697926868245066147

I'm pretty sure I've been on MN at least once a day every day for the past week and have not heard or seen anything about this.

Advanced search brings up nothing at all other than one thread in 2021.

He gets a couple of mentions under his previous name Teddy Lamb in these threads from back in 2020:

That seems to be it though

popebishop · 29/09/2023 17:32

I've never seen a trending topic about such a person.

I feel I've typed this a few times over the past month, but what a funny thing to make up! I think the dishonesty is all part of it.

There is an external site that keeps tabs on "unlikely" (shall we say) MN threads that get popular. I shall have a look on there too to check if it's mentioned.

pickledandpuzzled · 29/09/2023 17:33

There was a thread a while back where someone was described as being successful, and another poster was able to clarify that ‘successful’ was a very specific in this case- they were a writer and had had a play performed and had friends in theatre rather than having a successful career…
mot was a side bar in a much bigger conversation. I do think the original post was about them though- but it wasn’t in any way abusive. And obviously wouldn’t have led to streams of death threats or accusations of pedophilia

There may have a been a ‘gosh, is that ok from a safeguarding perspective?’, type question, but that’s hardly an accusation.

DiabolicalFinial · 29/09/2023 17:37

I want to see receipts - after all, we have reams and reams of evidence of violent/pornographic/abusive attacks from TRAs and TQ+s, so now they can show these messages and threats they have received. Because I don’t believe it.

WallaceinAnderland · 29/09/2023 17:40

If any thread in FWR is trending we are going to notice it. Never heard of this person.

untranchable · 29/09/2023 17:42

Searched his name on Reddit, he's hardly mentioned, and not at all in regard to MN: https://search.pullpush.io/?kind=comment&q="tabby%20lamb"

Had a bit of a smirk at this ascerbic comment though:

OT, but out of all the name you can pick, why choose “Tabby Lamb”? Sounds like a fat goat.

If I was @mnhq I'd be very seriously proving them wrong.

CyberCritical · 29/09/2023 17:44

Beginning of Sept Tabby was talking about a trans kids swimming session they were organising and then made a few comments about being called names so assuming this is linked to that.

Corknut · 29/09/2023 17:44

I expect the posts were deleted due to breaking community rules…

popebishop · 29/09/2023 17:45

Online, literally last week, I was one of the top trending topics on Mumsnet [...] and I had thousands, literally thousands of people in my [messages] calling me a paedophile and an abuser, because I’m making a show with young people about swimming as a trans person."

sorry but I keep coming back to how bizarre this claim is. Thousands of people DMing would've meant probably the biggest thread MN has ever had. I'm on every single day and never seen anything about 'a show about swimming', trans, young or otherwise.

Unless by "my messages" they mean a completely different site. They definitely weren't trending though.

There was actually someone who was trying to remember a film, a few months ago, about men who met at a synchronised swimming club?!

HagoftheNorth · 29/09/2023 17:16

Wondering whether MNHQ shouldn’t be getting on top of this - Tabby Lamb is suggesting they allow posters to harass people, which is clearly untrue

MNHQ should be asking that Stage print a retraction.

It's as believable as the idea of 'TERFs' booking tickets to Tabby's show to scream and shout.

I didn’t think threads from here went into trending, I have certainly never seen one.

and thousands of messages would involve a whole lot of posters posting to them, considering the max any thread can have is 1000 posts

SpicyMoth · 29/09/2023 17:53

I've not seen anything and I check in at least once a day! :S

Finteq · 29/09/2023 17:54

It's a pack lies.

Im on here every day. ( sad to admit)
And I think I would have noticed a trending topic on trans issues.

And how would it get trending enough for him to get thousands of PM's if it was deleted?

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 29/09/2023 17:57

If this is the one who used to be known as Teddy, there was a thread in 2021 about Lamb being refused entry to a bar in Manchester.

Lamb very clearly did not meet the dress code, which forbade joggers and tracksuit bottoms, IIRC. Lamb said Lamb was wearing 'tapered trousers', claimed the bar's refusal of service was transphobia and went to the local press about it.

No-one said anything about paedophilia because why would we?

itsmylife7 · 29/09/2023 18:00

They wish they were trending on MN.

Some people will do anything for a bit of publicity and badmouth " bloody vocal Women "

Indeed. It's rather defamatory of this person to suggest they've been the subject of thousands of harassing messages from Mumsnet users. HQ go out of their way to delete anything with even the smidge of a whiff of transphobia.

CyberCritical · 29/09/2023 18:01

Sorry @BlurredEdges I'm running on coffee and nervous energy today after a long hard week of work and was not clear. The stuff I've seen is all on Twitter not here. They made a few tweets (x's??? What do we call them now) about being called a paedo in relation to a swim thing. I haven't seen anything on Mumsnet.
