Cracking take down by Victoria Smith in the Critic.

All these points have been discussed here, but it's good to see them pulled together.

She mentions the hypocritical rule in the GRA about hereditary peerages, and that there is now a transwoman hereditary peer in the HoL (but no actual women because they can't inherit a peerage), but she fails to mention the other side of this, that if a daughter of a hereditary peer transitioned, she still wouldn't be considered to be male for the purposes of inheriting her father's peerage.

So many good examples in that article though. If men are going to lose out, then nobody believes in gender woo, but if women lose out, who cares?

That primogeniture exemption really does say it all ( that it's a male rights/ privileges movement)

Oh wow, US Rowing.

Males allowed in men's and women's categories, no probs. But mixed teams must have 50% assigned female at birth, lest the males in competing teams be disadvantaged by an all male, mixed gender team.

The rowing thing really really should have peaked a lot more people/sports' governing bodies.

HagoftheNorth · 29/09/2023 13:31

The rowing thing is hilarious, wasn’t that the case in the UK too for a bit? I am now wondering how other sports with mixed teams are managing this - eg triathlon & swimming mixed relays? Are those also sports who are now working with a more erm, biological definition for their sex-based categories?!

I can only imagine the outcry if there was a mixed doubles tennis match with a man / woman v man/ trans woman.

She really lays it out. I'd love Starmer to explain the inconsistencies.
