A domestic violence survivor in the UK has revealed her experience after the man who groomed her began identifying as a "woman."

Maya - who was raped and impregnated as a teen - was told she may have to refer to her abuser by "she/her" pronouns in court.

This is horrific 😡 and the authorities compelling her to lie in court, compounding her trauma further, is just wholly unacceptable, absolutely disgraceful treatment of a vulnerable victim of abuse

I haven't read the article. I do wonder though, what would happen if the victims in these cases said to the Judge, though their lawyer, "if I call the defendant a woman I will be perjuring myself" and ask the Judge to direct them to either use non-specific pronouns or male ones, because to do otherwise isn't 'the truth'.

Fucking hell. I don't know what else to say. Except here is yet more disgusting entitled depraved violent paedophilic misogyny, and it's being enabled - supported? - by our criminal justice system.

Of course not all males with a trans identity are incestuous paedo rapists, far from it. But trans ideology offers a hiding place and get out clause for those that are. And some utter fools think that the ideology is "progressive".

Utterly disgusting, and he is allowed to live on income support, right by a school, he has been to the local YOUTH COUNCIL meetings, harassed kids from there, he is on the town council - causing issues which he relates to being transgender, which it isn't, he is just a nasty piece of work. He is working at the Eye Community Centre and is even on the board
I suffered child abuse, sexual assault as a minor, and I don't want him to have the opportunity to do this again. I am sickened that he gets to carry on doing what he is doing without consequence. I wish the ex wife and daughters could raise this case and get him put away. No doubt the UK tax payers will be covering his impeding sex change operation costs.

I've recently come to the conclusion that we probably need to see victims being "punished" by courts for "misgendering" their abuser in court.

Much as it will be very very traumatising for the victims, the more this happens the more the utter batshittery of compelled speech will enter into mainstream consciousness.

Realistically, they need to find ways of referring to them without using pronouns.

It has already happened. Maria Machlaclan was attacked by a transwman. The tw was found guilty of assault, but the judge reduced (refused?) damages for Maria because she refused to refer to her male attacker as a woman.

In theory, no victim of abuse by a man who says he's a woman should be forced to lie or use wrong use/ inaccurate pronouns.

The problem is that the courts/judges overall still prioritise gender beliefs over sex reality ( ie the demands of the perpetrator in these cases over the needs of victims). So even if the victim is allowed to tell the truth when referring to the sex of the abuser, others in court- such as court staff, judges and legal representatives- may still lie. So it creates an incredibly hostile and intimidating environment for the victim, when s/he is already traumatised and distressed.

And because the courts lie about perpetrators' sex, journalists (eg the BBC) use court lies as an excuse for lying about the sex of convicted criminals in their reporting too. It's shocking those involved have so little integrity and journalists no commitment to truth and accuracy.

Making a person feel intimidated or distressed because of their belief is discriminatory I would have thought.

As much as I’m in favour of all people being represented in the manner they wish to be, it’s important that transgender issues are not drawn into the court rooms when discussing something as serious as rape and incestuous sexual abuse. I am horrified that the feelings of a rapist are placed above the feelings of the victims.

And it took years of work by lots of different people just to get the limited changes made. I think Stonewall has influence, and read somewhere the male judge who says he's a woman was part (forgotten his name, recently resigned) but the names of those who write/ advise on the Judge's bench Book are otherwise secret.

I understand where @MrsTerryPratchett is coming from in her post but let's be frank, if you've waited years for your court date, if you object to the judge's bias you are either going to make them hostile to your case or they will have to recuse and the victim waits even more years to go to court. More trauma for the victim either way.
