They're fully captured down under 🙁

The statement from their Human Rights Commission doesn't even make sense for the context:

“The Commission notes that the grant of this exemption may lead to the further exclusion of and discrimination against same-sex attracted transgender women.”

This is the opposite of what's happening! The problem is heterosexual males trying to get access to lesbian spaces because they supposedly “identify” as women and “identify” as lesbian, discriminating against and effectively excluding actual lesbian women. It dismays me how these comissioners apparently can't understand the basic facts of the situation. Or are wilfully ignoring them.

Australian Human Rights Commission Decision Prohibits Female-Only Events For Lesbians - Reduxx

Australia’s Human Rights Commission has released a preliminary decision prohibiting lesbians from holding events for females due to the exclusion of men who identify as “women.” The Commission’s decision comes after a lesbian rights group applied for a...

I'm firmly in the Northern hemisphere but my heart sinks reading that. It's wrong on every level.

Toseland · 27/09/2023 08:27

And just like that, Lesbian rights are back in the... I was going to say 1960s but perhaps it's more like the 1860s?

Helleofabore · 27/09/2023 08:50

This was a shocker of a decision. However, what it means, if I have read it and remember correctly is that nothing has changed in reality. Because an exemption was rejected nearly 20 years ago and lesbians went underground.

In saying that, it is a situation that needs to be changed and should never have been allowed to happen. What I hope though, is that this brings it to the attention of the public and the pushback grows. Just like here. It needs time to build. But it is building.

RocketPanda · 27/09/2023 08:53

Aren't same sex attracted trans women attracted to men then?

Igmum · 27/09/2023 11:36

This is appalling. Lesbians driven underground in 2023.

And yes @RocketPanda I agree, whoever made this ruling doesn't know the difference between sex and gender.

PorcelinaV · 27/09/2023 11:44

How the fuck could progressives do this?

Playing with language to ban lesbian events.

If you put something like that in a story warning of a dystopian future, people would think it too implausible.

Baldieheid · 27/09/2023 11:46

Aren't same sex attracted trans women attracted to men then?

Yes. Homosexual transsexuals, they used to be called. Like Blaire White. Whose partners are homosexual men.

A TW who is attracted to women is heterosexual, as the individual is male. This individuals partners are probably a choice between a woman they trapped into marriage and kids before transitioning, or fictional.

That's why some of these individuals are so angry at lesbians rejecting them. How DARE they? The sex drive is still there, but the wims won't do as they're telt.

Helleofabore · 27/09/2023 11:57

I figure that with Tickle vs Giggle and this ruling, there is going to be six months more of media coverage that will continue the Victorian liberal party leadership team defamation cases. This will move the discussion from sport and Australians will see it is a much broader discussion. And that something needs to be done.

Boiledbeetle · 27/09/2023 12:02

God, this shit has to stop.

Not one shiny shit given given about the women who just want to date women.

What about their rights?

What about the fact that the women are being excluded and discriminated against because some heterosexual men with a lesbian fetish want to get their dicks wet

Codlingmoths · 27/09/2023 12:11

Did tickle va giggle get decided? It seems pretty clear anyway now, if they say this then they will have to decide against giggle too. What a stinking mess. Whatever actual lawyer wrote ‘Same sex attracted transwoman’ should be crying in shame.

ArabellaScott · 27/09/2023 12:14

Surely this is illegal, somehow. It's so mad. I'm so sorry, Australian women, Australian lesbians. Shoved back underground, again. 😔

ArabellaScott · 27/09/2023 12:15

discrimination against same-sex attracted transgender women

What the fuck does that mean? And why are they supporting it?

Helleofabore · 27/09/2023 12:17

The AHRC just publicly supported Tickle.

It really does show that the AHRC will continue to rule in these cases in support of inclusion of males with trans identities. It may not change until there is a change of federal government. However, we can hope that the ALP will see sense and allow these discriminations that should be legal. Whereas they have chosen that in the cases of these conflicts in discrimination, that these male people should be prioritised.

It's just nonsense speak for heterosexual men.

I'm so sick of this shit.

lechiffre55 · 27/09/2023 12:43

And now the lesbians of Australia go underground. No public apps, invite only association in small groups, nothing formal, no organisations that can be sued, just the lesbians disappearing from the public space. An underground movement that would be criminal if it showed its face.
Not one bepenised lesbian is going to get any more rapey satisfaction, the lesbians will just disappear, you won't even be able to socially hang out with them now.

Presumably this affects same sex atracted males in exactly the same way.

On those maps where they show what countries in the world it's illegal to be gay, Australia should now be added. Great company you'll be keeping there Australia!

WoollyBat · 27/09/2023 12:48

So you can't base your gathering criteria on same sex because that's banned – but you can discriminate on the basis of sex to tell women what they can't do.

So does sex matter or not?

ArabellaScott · 27/09/2023 12:51

Presumably this affects same sex atracted males in exactly the same way.

I'd be surprised, tbh.

Simplistic rhetoric, but I guess it works.

One letter signed by 15 LGBTQ+ organizations, including the Melbourne chapter of Dykes on Bikes, the Trans Justice Project, and the Parents of Gender Diverse Children, proclaiming it is “not appropriate or necessary” for bisexual and trans women to be banned from lesbian gatherings. The letter also pointed out that any method for enforcing these rules would result in privacy violations...

A statement from Dykes on Bikes Communications Officer Kieran Cavanagh called the application “Nothing more than dangerous transphobic rhetoric and hate, causing harm and creating division when we should be united.”

“Our lesbian community is extremely vast and diverse, and that is a pillar of its strength. Without our trans sisters or queer elders, we would not have the freedoms and rights we celebrate today or the insight and knowledge for the challenges ahead.”

“We stand proudly with our trans sisters and nonbinary family. And we’ll continue fighting against LAG’s discriminatory and inflammatory transphobic exemption request. There is space for all of us. Nobody needs to be excluded.”

The term TERF applies to individuals who don’t see transgender women as real women or transgender men as real men and use the language of feminism to justify their transphobia....

Activists rise up against lesbian group trying to host “born female only” event

The Lesbian Action Group applied for exemption from anti-discrimination laws so it could "avoid any more challenges" with trans folks...
