Three men who had paid sex with a 16 year old girl in a cellar in Schiedam have been sentenced to up to nine months in prison. Two others were acquitted due to lack of evidence. The suspects all claimed that they did not know the girl was underage, AD reports. The fact that the girl was being kept in a cellar played a big role in their sentencing. The 16 year old girl was being held captive in a cellar while her boyfriend, the pimp, and three of his friends offered her as prostitutes on sex sites. The girl received at least a dozen customers over two days in May last year. The case come to light in May when the boyfriend turned himself in to the police after an attack of conscience. Suspect Rohiel G. and Hanok T. were acquitted due to a lack of evidence against them. The other three received jail time. Hamid S. was sentenced to 9 months unconditional, Patrick O. got 9 months, three of which conditionally suspended, and Johan A. was sentenced to four months, two of which conditionally suspended. Two weeks ago the Public Prosecutor demanded prison sentences of 9 months, 3 suspended against four of the five suspects. Against the fifth one, Hamid S., the prosecutor demanded 9 unconditional months, because he already has a criminal record showing a sex offense. The four suspects who forced the girl into prostitution will be appearing in court later this year.

"At least a dozen customers over two days"? So she was raped over a dozen times, and the rapists paid a man to have access to where she was imprisoned.

How could they be expected to care that she was in a cellar, eh?

Police in Schiedam, Zuid-Holland arrested three men earlier this week for the forced prostitution of a 16-year-old girl. The case came to light in May, 2014, when one of the men reported the case to authorities after feeling remorseful for his involvement. The men, aged 20, 23 and 26, are accused of keeping the girl locked up in a cellar and selling her for sex over the internet. Twelve clients between 20 and 65-years-old were also arrested around the country. “Besides the fact that the girl was underage, she also had visible injuries, such as bruises,” police said in a statement. Despite this, the signs of abuse did not prevent the men from having sex with her, investigators said. All of the clients were interrogated and provisionally released, but will be brought back for additional hearings. The three men accused of holding the girl against her will were arrested on Monday. Two are from Rotterdam and Vlaardingen, while the third has no fixed address. Two of the men were arraigned on Thursday and remanded into custody for at least two weeks.

Imagine how light the sentences would have been if she'd been imprisoned in an ordinary bedroom and hadn't been visibly injured

I cannot get over the depravity of men like these. I don’t understand how they can hurt a young girl in this horrific way and enjoy themselves. Calling them animals would be a slur on animals. These men did all of this intentionally and with no thought of the young girl as a human being deserving of respect and protection. I can’t express how much these men disgust me - I think criminals like these should be in prison for life; I doubt they can ever be safe to be around women and children.

If one of the men hasn’t confessed to police, would the girl ever have seen justice of any kind?

If one of them hadn't confessed, she might still be there.

She'd be 23 or 24 now, so her age wouldn't be an aggravating factor if the gang was caught. Any men caught having paid to rape her at 23 might all get off with suspended sentences.

What? 9 months for a sex attack on a child being held captive in a cellar?? These horrific men and their vile behaviour. So many of them prepared to take part in this as if it was a totally normal and reasonable way to behave.

God, what is wrong with people, I know this sort of thing likely always happened but it does feel like, as humans we are are sinking to new lows.... I guess porn has had added to the depravity?

And that was the longest sentence: Johan A. was sentenced to four months, two of which conditionally suspended.

If sex is just recreational and it is socially acceptable to pay for it, and you accept the sexualisation of minors, and girls are inherently worth less than men, this is where you end up. We need to be a lot more conservative in our ideas about sex, law and what is acceptable in our society.

That to watch other human beings have sex, no matter how degrading the circumstances, as long as the performers are paid, is totally acceptable and normal. And yet we act surprised when terrible crimes are committed against children and our fellow humans. Evil begins when we see other human beings as things. Who will say it's wrong?

I hate to break it to you but these types of things happen all the time..the sex industry doesn't exist in a vacuum. Who do you think visits the prostitutes and make it a billion dollar industry?

Sex attack. They raped the girl. She was locked in a cellar. What about that does not tell the police, judiciary that this is rape and that the men need locking up for a long time?

I think the rapists were seen as poor manipulated customers who were tricked into raping a teenage girl.
