very interesting story here and very interestingly written by the BBC, about 2 Canadian women who claimed to be Inuit to gain access to grants and sponsorship only open to Inuit peoples.

It’s clear from the tone of the article that the journalist fully believes the women involved were wrong, (and rightly so), and yet you could easily change the word Inuit for woman and be writing about some bloke who entered say a cycling race, and suddenly the article would be controversial and anyone decrying the man would be a bigot.

How?! How are people so flipping blind to the nonsense of all of this?!?!

Yup. It's five-star woke to claim the identity of another group on the basis of sex, but black mark for claiming the identity of another group on the basis of ethnicity.
Go figure 🤷

According to those more informed than me, it's because the sex and gender topic is from queer theory and the race issue is from critical race theory. But you will find queer theory proponents who are A-OK with people self-identifying race. If you remember the Maya Forstater court case, CGD said they were happy for people to self-ID race.

The difference is because it is about sex and predominantly about erasing women and women have no status in society.

For women to say they are being erased is of no relevance to a patriarchal society and women are not worth listening to.

This issuse has come up before. Remember all the progressives thrwoing up their hands in horror at Rachel Dolezal indentifying as Black. And if you try and use that as an arguement to say it is no different the reaction always is that for a white person appropriate a Black identity is unacceptable because white people have been the oppressors of Black people. And most people accept that.

But if you say that men as a sex class have been the oppressors of women as a sex class and so they men cant identify into the class they oppress nobly accepts that women have been oppressed as a sex.

Changing Identities: Are Race and Gender Analogous?

Analogies don’t compare two identical things—if they did, they wouldn’t be analogies. Analogies compare things similar in certain important respects. Analogies can illuminate latent prejudices and …

What more do men, globally, need to do before BBC and others would accept that men (as a class) opress women? 🤯

“You’ve wanted to take our language from us…now you want to take our identity. It’s just flabbergasting.” Yep.

The journalist who wrote this piece should have a little word with the BBC alphabet spaghetti correspondent and point out the corporation’s glaring double standards.

AfingeroffudgeisNOTenough · 23/09/2023 08:53

Yep! So much of the article is almost word for word what GC women are saying… and yet, still it’s ok for the bloody National Health Service (a service founded on science!) to remove the word woman - to remove language and identity, and organisations like the BBC (supposedly impartial) back them up!

This article displays the mental gymnastics required to support self ID to a T, yet we all know nothing will change.

Yep. Makes no sense to me why one is ok and not the other.
