Alas, I can't link directly, because it's a petition.

Someone thinks that Peter Tatchell is not helping the cause:

'Peter Tatchell is everywhere speaking for us.

On several occasions he has offered opinions contrary to what the majority of trans people believe.

He scolds trans activists for things he considers "bad optics".

He has a history of questionable statements that could lead one to believe he supports pedophilia making his "optics" less than ideal.

He has used the threats and harassment trans people receive as an excuse for why he is always the person called onto TV shows rather than an actual trans person saying that trans people won't do it so he has to. This is a lie - many trans people speak very publicly about trans issues using their own name and face on social media and all of us receive harassment and death threats on a regular basis anyway. Many would much prefer to risk further harassment by speaking for themselves and our community than having a cisgender man with such a shady history misrepresent the goals of our movement and the majority beliefs within our community.

This is a petition for Peter Tatchell to shut the fk up about trans people and instead when he is contacted for TV, Radio, Paper or indeed any other form of media to speak on trans issues for him to recommend one of the many trans people who speak out in favour of their community instead.'

I'm honestly torn as to whether or not I should sign it. I don't want to give the grifter who started it any chance of getting my name, so i think I'll pass.

Wasn't one of the aggressive blokes who stopped the showing of the AHF film called Wulf, I think he was spitting. Not sure if it's the same one though.

I think this is a great idea.

Not just Peter Tatchell shutting up, but people shutting up in general when they have neither the lived experience nor any professional credentials making it appropriate for them to comment.

I would like male people in general to shut up when women are speaking about why we need our own single sex spaces and sports (unless they are, for example, a sports scientist such as Colin Wright discussing proper research).

I would like women who say TWAW to shut up when other, generally less privileged women are explaining why they aren't comfortable sharing single sex spaces with male people.

I would like politicians with no medical qualifications, of either sex but particularly the male ones, to shut up about who has a cervix and whether women should be allowed to talk about that.

I would like trans people to shut up about how the rest of us should be happy to be referred to, and to listen to us and respect us when we say we don't want to be called "cis" or "people with cervixes" instead of bleating about inclusive language.

I would like everyone who isn't a gynaecologist to shut up when someone who is a gynaecologist is explaining what type of patients they do and do not treat.

This all sounds like an excellent idea tbh.

Much as I would hate to bring the whole notion of online petitions into disrepute(!) this seems like quite a good tactic in letting the wider world know that some self appointed commentators do not speak for women, for feminism.

The problem is that what with self publishing online, and lazy media programmes, the list would be never ending.

The problem for Tatchell is that, quite unaccountably, he has one foot in the establishment.

Interviewers like to wheel him out because he's articulate, and doesn't look like a swivel eyed loon. (They have to ignore all the paedo stuff in order to do so, but hey, that's nothing new.)

He gets air time, because he sounds relatively sensible. And, of course, he's well known for his gay rights stance, back in the day. Something that young tras have no clue about.

He's no-where near extreme enough for transactivism. They will absolutely kick him out. I can't wait to see who they choose to replace him tho.

You're very right, Datun, as you so often are. I'm always enraged by the amount of airtime given to Tatchell when you think about his publicly-expressed, easily-findable opinions on paedophilia. But tv bookers don't care about that - they care whether someone is articulate and fluent and confident. Which Tatchell undoubtedly is.

And the reason they book him rather than, say, an actual trans woman, is partly out of laziness, but also partly because Tatchell makes the trans case more eloquently than most trans-identifying activists, most of whom would lose public support quicker than you could say April Ashley if actually required to argue their case in a television studio rather than simply shouting "Suck my dick, Terf" in an unhinged manner.

Tatchell vs incoherent young person babbling nonsensically, their mum, solicitor and Support Dog?

Such difficult choices!

The TRAs should be careful what they wish for. They might get Debbie Hayton or Rose of Dawn instead of Tatchell and they'll be hoist by their own petard!

It seems that We The Terven also want trans people representing themselves rather than the ubiquitous Tatchell - a rare point of consensus (albeit for different reasons).

The reason why he gets wheeled out on trans issues is precisely because producers know that a big ol' bloke in a minidress and blue eyeshadow would give the game away and make indoctrination of viewers more difficult.

Personally I think Isla Bryson should replace Peter Tactchell as the TRA spokesperson. Why the hell not? He's a real life lady and he's got the leggings to prove it after all
