I mean, I know they are trying to be inclusive...but it's just fucking waffle and word salad... the picture on the front is nice though to be fair!

Ffs - we’re going to have a whole generation of people growing up not knowing whether essential screening services apply to them or not. This is not good enough.

Signed, The People (women)

Makes perfect sense, what’s your problem?

People with a cervix. So, just women then?

JellySaurus · 19/09/2023 12:43

Last paragraph is excellent and inclusive. Obviates the need for all that ' people with a cervix' giving.

Last paragraph also prevents nonsense like what hit that French gynaecologist.

I think it's the way they write 'if you are a transwoman you do not need cervical screening'. They stop short of writing "because you don't have a cervix'.

It feels very much like the booklet is aimed at not upsetting the men.

Arh yes I wonder if it was written like that because of that recent situation.

The NHS should record people's biological sex.
Then they could write a booklet that says 'anyone whose biological sex is female may need screening' or whatever.

WomaninBoots · 19/09/2023 12:51

It's just a demonstration of the fact that "women" and "woman" are now utterly meaningless words. Having to be replaced by three paragraphs of fucking twaddle. Money spent, time wasted.

No,they stop short of writing "because you are a man"

Except the word "woman" hasn't been replaced by anything, it's front and centre.

I actually think this booklet is OK. Its very clear that it's women and trans men (women) who need a smear test and excludes TW.

Cheeesus · 19/09/2023 13:05

It won’t have been produced that quickly.

I agree. I thought it was clear and to the point.

fantom · 19/09/2023 13:11

I don't mind this at all as it includes women and other people e.g. transmen who live as men but have a cervix.

fantom · 19/09/2023 13:12

It's when it's cervix havers that I get annoyed (never seem to hear about prostrate havers)

Me too. It reduces a human being to that which has a body part.

AnneWhittle · 19/09/2023 17:17

but this leaflet doesn't mention cervix havers, it talks firstly about women (so anyone with limited english etc would know it meant them) ad then it addresses the situation for transmen (who I would expect should understand they need screening but fair enough, point it out)- plus the cover shows a range of women of all ages and various ethnicities
I think it's fine

ApocalipstickNow · 19/09/2023 17:30

It’s ok. we get to keep being called women. I don’t care if women who want to be men or nb don’t want to be called women. I do.

women who identify as men or non binary can take issue if they dislike being termed “people with cervixes” just like women who dislike being referred to that way did.
