I was browsing around an article on another thread when I cam upon this picture ( the article is interesting, but it’s the photo I am interested in.)

What do you see?

6 humans?

2 women and 4 men?

3 women and 3 men?

1 man and 5 transpeople?

Incredible Shrinking Men

Simulating the pursuit of honour creates a deathtrap for real-world solidarity

Yep, this is gonna end real well.

PinkRoses1245 · 15/09/2023 12:12

6 people. Anyone with half a brain should say the same

Whatsnewpussyhat · 15/09/2023 12:16

Using non genderist language surely it would be 3 men and 3 women.

3 males and 3 females.

nothingcomestonothing · 15/09/2023 12:21

Honestly? I'll probably get deleted for this but I see 2 middle aged men with a fetish, three adolescent girls who've been lied to and a man.

Yup! 👏👏👏👏👏👏

I haven't read the article but to me at first glance, it is a very scary picture, as it looks like the 'people' are not in proportion and it thus challenges my perceptions which I prefer to be able to rely upon.

If we met them in real life the inbuilt radar for what sex someone really is would click in. With just a photo, we can have doubts.

DuesToTheDirt · 15/09/2023 13:08

My reaction would partly on where I saw the photo.

First thought - it's photoshopped, there are three tiny men in there. They're not just short men as they have the wrong proportions, so it's photoshopped.

Second thought - as I saw it on this board, I'd wonder if any were transgender. Then I'd think yes to the two tall people on the left and right. Then I'd have another look at the small people, and think they were maybe transgender, but less obviously so. If I'd seen the photo somewhere else I might not have thought about transgenderism too much.

Immoralplant · 15/09/2023 13:54

Has anyone else read the article? I thought it made an interesting point that I'd never thought about before, about how video games give men rewards they would previously have got by going out hunting to provide for their family.
And wouldn't it be great if we could find some way for them to get those rewards doing something more socially useful.

GolgafrinchamB · 15/09/2023 13:58

I see three halflings and three blokes, two of which are in skirts.

Has this been photoshopped? They are TINY!

Transmen do often seem to be shorter than average women. As in, the ones I have seen on the kiwifarms online often describe themselves as under 5'3", sometimes even under 5'. I don't know whether this is because they have been on PBs, as I understand these restrict height (more knowledgeable posters than me will have the scientific explanation for that). Or if shorter than average girls are drawn to gender ideology.

You may notice that trans people in the public eye are rarely photographed with people of the sex they present as. You won't find photos of Eliot Page ( who I believe is under 5') with men, or Hunter Shafer with women. Photoshopped individual pics on social media are one thing, but candid group photos are quite another.

PlanetJanette · 15/09/2023 14:34

So firstly, there is absolutely no verification that this photo is even real.

But secondly, unclear what the point is - that trans men are shorter than other men? That trans women are taller than other women?

Do any of you see any problem in trying to argue legitimacy of someone's gender identity based on how they look?

And do any of you see any problem at all in taking the image of six people and posting it online (if it's real) to discuss those people's physical appearances? Utterly ghoulish and disgusting behaviour.

Puberty blockers do stunt the growth of females and yet conversely do the opposite to males causing them to grow taller and have longer limbs, castrati were a very good example of what happens to a male when they aren't allowed to go through puberty though in the case of castrati the testicles are removed rather than puberty blockers being used (only because they weren't invented then).

DeanElderberry · 15/09/2023 14:48

Leaving the people in that image aside, Elliot Page will never look like an adult man. Nor will Blu Del Barrio. It isn't just height, it's build, and gait, and skull shape.

People claiming that transmen will be challenged and abused if they try to use female facilities have never convinced me. Whiskers don't make a person look male any more than fake boobs make one look female.

borntobequiet · 15/09/2023 15:03

Utterly ghoulish and disgusting behaviour.

Don’t be silly (and hyperbolic).

So much of being trans is about appearance and “passing”. It’s perfectly legitimate to remark on when the illusion conflicts with reality.

Signalbox · 15/09/2023 15:22

My first thought was that the 3 smaller people were children (like 12 year old boys). Then I noticed the men in dresses and everything fell into place.

popebishop · 15/09/2023 16:31

As we can't see souls surely we have zero idea if these people are men or women. There is no definition that actually differentiates between them, so could be all men, all women. 6 humans is all we can conclude.

Delphinium20 · 15/09/2023 16:48

What I see is obviously what most competent adults see.

But what is more interesting to me is what did the people in the photo think when they saw it? Does the evidence tickle their critical thinking or did they experience some kind of discomfort like dysphoria or cognitive dissonance?

viques · 15/09/2023 16:52

Souls have genders? Who knew!

Presumably they are binary because while I have heard of soul brothers and soul sisters I have never heard of soul gender non conforming.

ValkyrieAssassin · 15/09/2023 16:56

No and I always thought there WAS a definition that could differentiate between them. XX or XY. Definition and chromosomes, tbh.

dimorphism · 15/09/2023 17:07

I see an obviously photoshopped photo and at that point - knowing it's not real - I don't think there's a lot of point thinking any more about it.

In real life you can always tell sex - not just from appearance (though that too) - movement, sound, smell. All different in males and females - you don't have to see someone to know. A voice is enough.

DeanElderberry · 15/09/2023 17:08

I also see six people who look happy and relaxed in each other's company, which is a good thing. My knowledge of the world makes me a little scared for any of them who might have been bamboozled into taking dangerous meds or having necessary surgery, but I'm glad they have some good times with friends, that is important for everyone.

Ofcourseshecan · 15/09/2023 17:27

The three tall people are obviously adult men, and the central small one is a young woman. But I was less certain about the other small ones because of the beards; I thought those two were men with one of the medical conditions that restricts height.

Really, that's weird. As a short-arse, I've always thought my height would have been something that would have put me off transitioning if it had been a thing when I was a teen, because of what a ridiculous looking man I'd make.
