Does anyone know how safe is it to be Gender Critical at this university. I don’t plan on actively seeking out this point. But I’m not going to stand by and be forced to identify my pronouns or accept that women are anything but Adult Human Females.

I’ve seen some attacks on a lecturer there for stating biological reality

Im somewhat concerned as was hoping to start a post grad course there soon.

Who knew??? Thanks.

Sounds like the lecturers are as fed up as everyone I suppose!!!

Might email them anonymous and find out what their stance is.

Golden employer at Stonewalled academy.
lots of staff invested on LGBTQ++ research.
Many staff do not use pronouns though.
Some policy docs conflate gender and sex.

At the beginning of a lecture this week at Exeter University the speaker introduced themselves with pronouns, gender, age group, clothing, hair colour/style.

Ohthatsabitshit · 09/09/2023 15:28

Oh and their name! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Did they actually have time to do the lecture or were they too busy telling the paying customer about their issues?

you see I can’t remember peoples names let alone they have clown/fairy pronouns.

im going to have to ask.

Sorry to say, but Exeter has really drunk deep of the Kool Aid in official documentation.

But there are also - as far as I know from hanging out with colleagues from Exeter at conferences - pockets of resistance & deep GC feminism.

What area/faculty/department are you looking at? There are people to avoid there, but it's not overtly TRA, like wherever Sally Hines works, for example.

TottieIsTottie · 09/09/2023 23:16

Sounds bad.
I take it the "J K Rowling Room" isn't there any more? Anyone know what it's called now? Ironically before that it was called the "Free Tibet Room" but they changed it so as not to cause offense to potential donors...

Hi I’m looking at history if you know anyone there?

History is not my field (although I'm in the Humanities). But I had a quick look at the History department home page (they seem mixed up with Archaeology?) and most lecturers seem OK. There are one or two who say their research is "sexology" or gender history - you may want to avoid those particular members of staff. If you're looking at a taught Masters, you can probably avoid the gender guff.

The student body is quite woke, but naive - one of my Exeter-based colleagues was telling me about the student "Feminist" Society having an imam speak to them on Islam & feminism; apparently, they'd (inadvertently?) invited a pretty fundamentaist imam who preached at them that women should stay home & have all the babies!

Ohthatsabitshit · 10/09/2023 20:04

I think a hard line imam would be more interesting rather than a moderate.

I will dm you.

Probably not a good idea to name names to any random person on MN, even in a DM.

Ah great thanks! I’d have liked to have been in that meeting to see the reaction😀

Absolutely- I guess I was after general impressions on the overall position/trend - there’s always going to be some people bucking the trend.
