Are these pronouns real?

Applying for a new job and this literally was the second question after asking my name...I can't figure out if they're being real - they even have a box to enter your own "custom pronoun" what can I write in there and be unique?

Are these pronouns real?

AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH

Hu Hu sounds like the name of a panda bear.

Ze means 'she' in Dutch, so not very gender neutral in two of our neighbouring countries.

They never give the possessive pronouns, so I would need to ask them to specify those in case I needed them (quite likely in real life to need to say e.g. "that is his pen" etc).

What would they be?

Ze / Hir / Zis ? Sounds like a strong German accent saying 'The / here / this'

Fae/ Faer / Faeries

Rather than Ey/em, how about Eey/ore for those with donkey identities?

Within the complete batshittery of that list, what's also annoying is that He/him has to come first; always centring the men.

Could you go with:

Im_inlovewithRachelGreensHair / ThatbeautifulhighlyskilledandsooooarticuatethatIcanbarelyrestrainmyaffectionsaround_RachelGreensHair

Would make for some awesome e-mails:

Im_inlovewithRachelGreensHairhas the latest data on that issue, can you arrange a short meeting with ThatbeautifulhighlyskilledandsooooarticuatethatIcanbarelyrestrainmyaffectionsaround_RachelGreensHair to discuss ?

*Automatic formatting ruined that - ah well, hopefully it is still readable.

Is there a box for “Fuck off@?

This is the sensible option!

(but I would be tempted to go with Hee/Haw because I LOVE donkeys)

A good choice! 😁

Shaz/zam works well

SunnieShine · 07/09/2023 22:06

I love a few of these suggestions but yeah, it won’t go down well. I think N/A would be fine and gets the point across without causing an issue. If you get the job you might need to be ready to battle over other things, such as adding pronouns to your email.

I came across a lady in a cafe the other day with she/they on her badge and I thought surely she’s quite confused?

There's someone who works for the same company as me who has he/they as pronouns on "they's" signature. I really want to know whether that means he is happy to be referred to as either he or they and hasn't thought about object pronoun of him/them, OR does he not understand grammar and thinks that he and they are the subject and object pronouns respectively. (Or he hasn't thought much about it at all and just put he/they cause he thinks it makes they sound special)

Could you be thespian gender, your pronouns include stage directions and musical intros ?

LarkLane · 07/09/2023 22:34

Ey/Up

Northern accents only

CorruptedCauldron · 07/09/2023 22:37

Kin/Ell

(to be muttered under one’s breath!)

Mysleepisbroken · 07/09/2023 22:49

Could you draw something, then be terribly offended when they don't know how to pronounce it.

SinnerBoy · 07/09/2023 22:56

I think that's the best one yet!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 07/09/2023 23:02

Wib/ble

Bob/Kate

Bal/Drik

Feh/Kov

Deeyi/Esseee-oh

SpicyMoth · 07/09/2023 23:56

Change your name on the application to Michael Jackson.
Assign custom pronouns as hee/hee.
Job done!
(Unless of course you actually want the job 😂)

Gowlett · 08/09/2023 00:06

I like to the thespian gender idea.
I’d a royal gender & just be known as “One”.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/09/2023 00:13

I read Hu/Hu as Hoo Hoo. Which means I now have Sympathy for the Devil going through my head…

(Or he hasn't thought much about it at all and just put he/they cause he thinks it makes they sound special)

It means he is either
a) happy with he/him/his and they/them/theirs or;
b) he expects people to alternate usage of he/him/his and they/them/their.

As you noted, it is a convention that when you list pronouns, you list two forms so you can use a forward slash. Grammar is irrelevant! I believe it originated in the realisation that appending only one form on a name-badge could lead to the pronoun being taken as part of someone's name. Particularly a risk in a diverse workplace where people hail from a variety of backgrounds.

The /her and /him etc are just there to cue your brain into realising the preceding pronoun is a pronoun declaration instead of a name. That's why people list various subject pronouns, separated by a forward slash, without realising any grammatical implications.

The swine.

Eff/orf
It's all so sodding tiresome.

I did note when dropping DD at uni that some of the older students helping had pronoun badges. They were all obviously female and they all said she/her as if it wasn't glaringly obvious.

The blokes didn't bother.

"Well, it depends which language I'm speaking. In English, I use I, me, my, mine, myself but in Welsh, it's i, fy (plus if it'spossessuive, you've got the confusion of the noun it refers to mutating.) French is je, me, mon, ma, mes, moi. German is ich, mich, mein, meiner, meinem, meines, meine, Spanish is yo, mi, mis. Dutch is ik, mij, don't known much Dutch to be fair, and I've probably forgotten a load without grammar books to hand to remind me. Oh, I can probably remember some Latin, too... ego, me, mihi, meus, meum, mea, mei. It's interesting seeing the etymological links through all those different languages, isn't it, the similar patterns and so on. I've only ever learnt European languages, though - I don't know if they work the same way in Arabic or Japanese or Mandarin or Swahili or something, if thry even have the same concept of pronouns. Oh, your form has run out of space..."

This would be fantastic way to weed out the pronoun loons at application stage 😁

An undercover HR terf plant?

MaybeanothertimeNotReally · 08/09/2023 03:36

This is illegal isn't it? They're using the pronoun multiple choice options as a way to identify gc. It's quite a discriminatory practice because they're forcing people to state their gender identity preference early on.
