The momentum is growing.

@rabbitwoman your lea really is and that is outstanding.

The issue is that areas of high academisation do not have as much lea influence. And academies can technically set their own curriculum (though I don't think many do for the core subjects due to the standardised tests.)

WarriorN · 03/09/2023 08:02

Where is the schools guidance?

It's like a version of "Where is the Green Sheep?"

Spoiler: asleep behind a bush.

Slothtoes · 03/09/2023 08:03

This is incredibly important expert advice and should be adopted immediately by the official bodies. Ofsted should be questioning any school who depart from this about why they are more expert than Tavi whistleblowers who know where this ‘kindness’ leads.

I think my LEA must be miles ahead of the curve. We had new Transgender Guidance for Schools out last September, and it thanked Sex Matters, transgender trend and the safe schools alliance in the acknowledgements. And you can tell.

Sensible advice. Parents must be kept informed. No boys in girls loos or changing rooms or sports teams (or vise versa) no matter how they identify.

Sex and gender are different and mustn't be conflated; must encourage good relations between people of opposing views; cannot be compelled to use pronouns that might be counter intuitive, cannot be punished for not using the correct pronoun.

It even specifically states that we must not teach that trans women are women.

I don't know why we have such sensible guidance when no other LEA seems to, but I like to think it might have something to do with all the emails I sent my MP.....

But there is someone very gender critical in my LEA!!!!

This is excellent. May I ask which LEA, please? It certainly isn’t ours 🤬

StefanosHill · 03/09/2023 08:13

I’d love to see an interview in the press with the Head or other person who makes decision for that excellent LEA

If anyone has an idea how to bring that about it’d be really good

There’s so much discussion on here but that’s the first I’ve read and thought yes this. Plus general single sex issue need similar

They really do as I know of one instance whereby Ofsted criticised a primary school as the children didn't know all the protected characteristics. I was told by a headteacher who knew via the head that it was specifically 'transgender' the children who'd been interviewed didn't know about.

Heads talk. Some Heads panic. That's how the mess evolves.

Yes this. Most people want to do well and then it comes down to the hoops Ofsted set

It really is invasive

Slothtoes · 03/09/2023 08:20

Wow- well done that LEA. May I ask which one also, or whether you would consider PM if you don’t want to post names on here?

It would appear that the schools guidance from the EHRC is being reviewed and as that will impact on the guidance issued by the government for England it could be delayed again.
I know many of you will be disappointed but surely we need to make sure its correct 1st

Rights watchdog reviews pro-trans advice on school changing rooms

Campaigners say EHRC ‘wrongly interpreted’ the Equality Act, based on the false premise that under 18s could legally change sex or gender

Ofsted shamefully were signed up at Stonewall Diversity champions - until FOI requests revealed letters from Stonewall criticising inspectors for not discussing trans issues often enough in primary schools. Ofsted then left Stonewall - but of course have failed to apologise for being captured by them in the 1st place

I just do not understand this. It's obviously not that hard to get hold of some good guidance and put it in place!!

I noticed one of the lesson plans for the Gender identity lesson in the RHSE lesson was not compliant with our new guidance. I got a meeting with a head teacher who referred me to the person in charge of writing the lessons - had an hours meeting with her, and hey presto!! Lesson resource changed.

Not difficult. If there is decent guidance in my LEA, why not country wide?

rabbitwoman · 03/09/2023 10:04

Anyway, if anyone would like a copy of my school's guidance, happy to send it via email, DM me

@rabbitwoman great work! I'm working with my daughters' school to help with their PHSE guidance and I've also been thinking of looping in my MP to see what support he can offer in lieu of guidance coming from the DfE. I've written to him previously (about the Equality Act debate) and his views are GC.
As he's a Tory, I'm wary that he may say that his hands are tied because it's a national government issue. Is yours Tory or a different party?

Sometimesrational · 04/09/2023 07:37

Regarding SIMS. Yes. Seen this in my school. This alone needs its own thread!
