Great article about female cycling

Great articulate article by an elite woman cyclist. I read the comments Emily has made since her vogue 'accolade' and I actually am worried about her mental health in that she refers to her loneliness, 'trans sibllings: and some bizarre paraphrasing of Churchill threatening legal action to overturn the national cycling governing bodies ruling to only allow female born athletes into women s races.

VICTORIA HOOD: Vogue's cynical wokery demeans every girl

It's simply infuriating - and I suspect every other sportswoman who's had to claw her way to success in a world so skewed in men's favour feels the same.

Thank you for posting this. Victoria Hood was indisputably correct. She mentioned all the amazing female alternatives for the ‘female’ list vogue put up too. Amazing British women athletes. Yet they chose a now mediocre male who is going to ‘fight’ to race with female people as a male. Because special feelings sets Bridges aside from other male athletes who have reduce testosterone for whatever reason.

Great article.

It's a fantastic article that really highlights how frustrating it is that there are women who have trained HARD and CONSTANTLY most of their teen/adult lives to achieve what they have achieved (Gold!) completely ignored in favour of a mediocre male who's saying some pretty inflammatory and completely untrue things ("genocide!") and having a paddy because he now can't come first and beat everyone (every woman) else and get the gold medals/prize money.

borntobequiet · 25/08/2023 07:51

That’s a very good article.

Vogue and other high fashion magazines have never done women any favours, though, in presenting a version of womanhood that is expensive, uncomfortable, often ridiculous in appearance and sometimes borderline fetishised. I like clothes and fashion, but not when it’s patently silly.

Vogue gaslight women

borntobequiet · 25/08/2023 07:52

Forgot to add: and that’s why Bridges is a perfect fit for Vogue, when the other admirable athletes named are not.

Thanks for posting - great read

Many thanks for the link. Spot on.

[Vogue are] exalting Emily for her identity rather than her achievement

Nails it for me.

Its not about disliking trans people. It's about being really fucked off that males are sucking up the limited sports resources & awards that women work so bloody hard for.

I love sport & fitness. I work really hard to still be slightly overweight with slightly above average strength and good stamina. God knows the sacrifices those women make to be top of their game.

How they must feel when a male infiltrates something that means the world to them & scoops up rewards which are not theirs to take. And to add insult to injury, they then have the choice to smile and clap, or be publicly denounced as 'anti-trans'.

It's a dystopian male rights movement sponsored by Vogue.

puffyisgood · 25/08/2023 09:02

I very much doubt EB would attend any kind of awards ceremony, too many photo opportunities standing next to real women, but I did briefly allow myself to wonder how a red carpet interview might go.

So why are you in our September 2023 issue's Vogue 25, Emily?

I was nearly/briefly, up until March 2022, going to be allowed to do pro sport against women.

Ah right - so you weren't allowed to compete. But you've since been at the forefront of the battle for inclusion, using the scientific cutting edge to show that TWAW and that all trans women should be allowed to compete?

Well... I have been part of an n=1 study at Loughborough University... but it doesn't really have wider application, what I'm trying to prove that I, Emily, don't have an unfair advantage... all those big butch cross dressers with their bulging muscles can go whistle.

Great article thanks OP and this will be seen by many MANY more people than the gushing idiocy in Vogue

It's a pity such articles have to be written though when it's such an obvious point but this is the world we live in.

I think Vogue to be 'woke' have taken an opportunity to misguided latch onto the alleged zeitgeist by using Emily in an article. Unfortunately maybe this has given Emily the false hope that she has a popular support that might propel her into taking exhaustive and costly legal action against British Cycling which I very much anticipate will fail (or women's sport is in the s*it).

I really do hope Emily actually participates in open or men's races in order to get some exercise and although not absolutely elite enjoy competitive sport. I do think that would be a positive boon to her mental health.

This whole struggle is getting depressing enough without the additional irritation that the newspapers fighting back are the Mail, Telegraph and Times. No doubt because they want to make mischief for Labour in the culture wars. Having loathed the Mail and Telegraph for so long (Brexit, immigration++), I'm loathe to cheer them on when they are on the right side of history. Completely agree with the article and not trying to derail the thread but I feel the rage every time. Where the fuck are the Guardian, once the natural allies of women? Don't bother to answer. It's a rhetorical question. I know it's been captured by OJ et al.

Emily was doing this and also winning men's races right up until British cycling decided not to allow Emily to compete against elite women like Laura Kenny. There was even a picture of Emily with three other men on the podium. Not sure why Emily is not still competing with the men. Sorry unable to attach photo

ColinTheGenderMinotaur · 26/08/2023 09:47

Also, wry laugh at Google’s ‘people also search for’ suggestion. Not an actual female cyclist amongst them!

Great article about female cycling

Male-run Vogue and Bridges deserve each other. With knobs on.

viques · 26/08/2023 10:26

It’s funny how these days EB barely mentions the accidents that were the reason they were dropped from the male elite training squad. Because before the accidents EB was perfectly prepared to continue to compete as a male, be referred to as male and had declared strong ambitions to be celebrated as a male Olympian in Paris 24. It was only when EBs performance fell far below the standard needed to compete successfully as a male that EB became so very determined to race as a female.

I do wonder how EB would be identifying had they not had such admittedly horrific accidents. I get the feeling that given the choice the lure of Olympic gold as a male cyclist would be greater than the allure of a badly fitting designer outfit and a photo in Vogue.

ColinTheGenderMinotaur · 26/08/2023 13:23

the Vogue magazine stable is won’t to be bamboozled by trans ideology when it it comes to selecting for these lists, remember 2018?
