Alice has really let it all out in RollingStone.

Full JKR.

Of course RS has put in all sort of passive aggressive play downs "debunking the bathroom debacle" and making out he's not got it quite right and is a bit "confused."

AC has described how he can see that self ID means unfettered access to women. Men saying they're women. Which RS has down played.

She's added the "stepping out of line" and subject tangential to another search comments to her already published post a day earlier? Is that right?

If it is, it's very sad indeed.

Lottapianos · 30/08/2023 16:36

'She shouldn't have to correct her thoughts because some unaccountable blob (or even bots) automatically goes into over drive against any comment querying the false theory of trans'

No she absolutely shouldn't, but gender critical women who speak out on this always end up backing down. Almost always. And actually it would have been better for her and everyone else if she had said nothing, which is an utterly shit state of affairs

That's just silly and disrespectful of her and other women who speak out.

Why would you want her or anyone to hide that no everyone thinks like the TRAs.

And far from being better for everyone, she has provided us with mor evidence of the intolerant anti woman shit storm we are living through.

Next thing you will be saying JKR shouldn't have spoken out as after all she is giving uppity women a bad name.

I dont even know who she is, but I certainly wouldn't presume to tell her that she was wrong in speaking honestly.

What would be nice is that instead of criticising her on a public platform is to send her a message saying glad she spoke out and sorry the publicity machine shut her down.

But JKR hadn't ever recanted.
I'm afraid it's totally counterproductive to do a 180 this way, because it teaches the next woman to shut her mouth.
You know from her first response statement that she believes in what she said, and was happy to leave it there.
She's surely seen other women do the hostage statement, she can't be unaware what her words would have provided.
Saying she should be given a pat on the back and told, jolly sad but at least you gave it a go, isn't going to cut it in this cutthroat world.
She actually sets the cause back. Because the next woman has to climb over her rather than be lifted up by her.

Wow - that's very righteous.

Sometimes people fail. It doesn't mean you shit all over them.

ON your logic no one would even try, because on a score rating JKR is the only one who has kept on, and she had the money to do it.

Not every one else does.

Grotesque to say others will have to climb over her. Most women would say thanks for trying, I'm going to give it a go, but may also be pushed back like you.

Hey, we're all a bit guilty. I've already said I self censor in group situations, I'm sure that's common across most on MN. Although I'm doing that less and less.

Noone here is denying the pressures. It seems other than JKR, only men are likely to hold the line...and look what's happened to Glinner.

So it's miserably predictable how it's turned out for Roisin.

BonfireLady · 07/09/2023 22:17

I'm also doing it less and less @RealityFan So far, so good...

Obviously a lot has happened on the Roisin Murphy story since this last post (I'm just catching up on this thread today), and some of it is covered on other threads (e.g. Glinner and John Boyne) but it does feel like things are coming out in to the open more and more. The subject of harm being done to children - and what happens to the people who call this out - seems to be opening things up a little more in the public discourse.
