Wow, that was one of the worst pieces of writing I can remember ever reading.

It was like you'd written a letter to a major magazine, and your mum, dad or teacher intercepted it, put in these correction notes scrawled in the margins, and the whole thing was published in full and unamended, lol.

possibly the most straightforward comment and I totally agree with him.

Most likely not on the average MNers radar but currently happening in the (metal subgenre) Deathcore community. The the singer of Thy Art Is Murder recently shared a Matt Walsh vid of a mum asking her toddler if they are a 'boy or a girl' and the singer responded very negatively (I don't condone what he said btw, but emotions run high when it comes to children). Now Alex Terrible (singer of Slaughter to Prevail) has made a post that is of the essence 'I'm simply aheterosexual male, I don't care or want to know what you get up to. Leave kids alone. Don't care if you cancel me'

What's fascinating here is that number people commenting on the twitter thread along the lines of "oh no, not another transphobe! 💔 " are totally 'cool dude' with the sexual abuse of teen girls, but not the sexist medical abuse of teen girls.

I’m a Doom Metal/Stoner Rock & Punk Gal Minotaur myself and the punk subreddit is full of kids making rules about what is and what isn’t punk (while the few Gen Xers on their mock them for their authoritarianism).

I noticed the transgenderUK sub are currently trying to name and shame a UK tattooist for posting pushback against trans ideology on his Insta story. I reckon GC is the majority view point for almost all aging alt types but maybe it snuck up on some of us because it looks a bit counterculture if you don’t look too hard (and it was a bit counter culture in the way that Wayne/Jayne County did it).

My guess is:

They are older
They have life experience which makes it very clear to them that men and women have biological differernces that impact their lives
They've never really cared about people not liking them
They've already made their bundle.

I would also say that not all music subcultures are necessarily progressive in their political orientation. They might be libertarians, but certainly if you look at the rap music world, many of them are not all over the typical American Democrat talking points. Kanye West obviously, but also people like Lil Wayne, don't seem to have much time for id politics. I think the same is true in genres like metal.

Yeah I've noticed this as well. Fandoms and subcultures will obsessively police tiny nuances of what is or is not goth, or real Labour, or a true Trekkie or whatever, but when it comes to who is a woman, something that materially affects a marginalised group's safety and political and legal right to self determination, it's suddenly "meh, who cares? They're a woman if they say they are".

Alice Cooper talks such commonsense in the interview and I really like the don't-give-a-fuck-if-I'm-cancelled attitude of some of the older rockers.

But that doesn't make him a good guy as far as women are concerned. There's the sexual abuse of a teenager which other posters have written about but also his support for Johnny Depp.

Maybe rolling stone are doing this deliberately to make points.

They are 75 and 76 respectively - according to my quick Google they have three kids and each so odds are they have grandkids and can see first hand the crazed authoritarianism that comes with trans ideology.

They will both be handwaved away as ‘boomers’ of course but like it or not, boomers still run the world and the people who work for Santana & Cooper can’t cancel their boss.

Would imagine both command extremely high ticket prices so the people who can justify paying for them are also likely older, lifelong fan types.

Gigs have become hideously expensive in general but the stadium gigs are off the charts expensive (no darling child, I will not pay as much for you to see My Chemical Romance as I pay for Dolly Parton. Dolly P is the only person I will pay £150 a ticket to see!)
