Christian writer in debate with drag queen, in new one-hour podcast. Particularly relevant as the drag queen is behind the drag for children at this week’s Greenbelt Festival.

Obviously has a Christian focus, but raises lots of wider issues about drag, including misogyny, Drag Queen Story Hour, Cheryl Hole, and drag queen Jimbo's enormous fake breasts.

On most platforms. Search for Premier Christian Newscast > Drag Queens in Church? Or link to Amazon Podcasts here:

The Rev (retired) Mike Starkey is occasional lurker on MN, a very considered (and considerate) thinker in my comms with him. His Flaneur Notes blog site really chimes with me, can't imagine this podcast will be any less compelling.

I’m half way through.

The drag queen is so disingenuous. “I’m not parodying women”, you are calling yourself Barbara and wearing fake breasts. Also he said something along the lines of I don’t enjoy wearing high heels and all the paraphernalia. Well why are you doing it then? He also denies that there is anything sexual about the way he does drag. Really then what are you doing?

So far the vicar has made very pertinent points.

The more I learn about drag and the more I see of it the more I suspect that it is done by men who hate us with a passion, I wonder if that often that comes from jealousy, I wonder if there are some homosexual men who wish that heterosexual men would be attracted to them, which in some cases leads them to despise women and want to publicly mock and humiliate women partly to increase the level of misogyny amongst heterosexual men in the hopes that they will also come to despise women and prefer other men for physical intimacy instead.

Anyway, interesting podcast thanks OP

Glad you're finding it interesting. I agree there are contradictions in what the drag queen says.

Much as I dislike the idea of "age-appropriate drag", I won't be watching this. Christianity has traditionally done enormous damage to the children forced into it, so it's quite laughable for them to be assuming "the moral high ground".

I find that an odd thing to say. Christians are not a monolithic group. Here is a Christian writer standing up for women's dignity and children's safety, and challenging the incursion of drag into church. So surely that's a good thing.

We'll have to agree to disagree. As far as I'm concerned, standing up for women's dignity and children's safety means rejecting all irrational cults, not just the transgender one. And Christianity has a long, bleak history of misogyny and child abuse.
