Oh, and she's a viper who posts on MN FWR with no time for genderwoo.

There is the most ridiculous statement ever in the BBC story.

"Andy Train, chair of the Hull and LGBT+ Forum, helps organise Hull Pride events and gave his reaction to the book.
He said: "I was surprised to see this illustration. I think the illustrator [of the book] was given carte blanche. It's a bit stereotypical. An illustration showing a family waving a trans flag, for example, may have been a better choice.
"People are free, within the realms of the law, to dress how they want at Pride event.
"Some people do attend Pride events wearing that kind of clothing but that tends to be abroad. The weather here rarely lends itself to dressing in a revealing way."

He's either never been to a Pride event (unlikely, given that he helps organise one) or he's lying. I wonder which it is.

EwwSprouts · 23/08/2023 16:12

@Chersfrozenface He knows, he's co founder & co chair of UK pride organisers network.

And he's influential.

Like so many other posters, I would welcome more books for preschoolers featuring homosexual couples, and families with two mums or two dads. However, when we have heterosexual relationships in preschool books we don't see them wearing lingerie or doing sexual activities. So the same should apply for homosexual relationships in preschool books.

It’s not that he’s lying but that he’s deliberately, spectacularly avoiding the issue of bondage gear appearing in a book aimed at 4-7 year olds.

I've just had a look at the Birmingham libraries online catalogue for this book and there IS a copy in Kingstanding library in the childrens section. I don't want books banned or put in a 'special storage' area as per Helen Joyce & Kathleen Stock books etc but surely this shouldn't be on display or available for small children to borrow?!

I don't know whether it's worth emailing the library...not sure as to the extent of capture in Birmingham.

Kingstanding is a fairly traditional working class area, lots of Irish heritage people, lots of Catholic schools, people I know from the area aren't 'captured' - definitely are in some other areas of Birmingham but not Kingstanding, I'd say worth emailing the library!

I know it’s a few years since my son was at pre school but I don’t remember Biff Chip and Clipper go to the fetish club in leather and rubber being on his reading list

I think it was Biff, Chip and Kipper and they had a magic key which took them to the land of the dinosaurs not the sex dungeon.

Has he never been down Hull on a Saturday night? The women will be wearing next to nothing even in the depths of winter.

Is he taking the piss??

Justme56 · 23/08/2023 19:23

I think even Biff and his mates has come under some scrutiny! I am not sure if these were real but I remember the story being covered in the press.

You just misgendered Biff!

Grammarnut · 24/08/2023 08:35

The book is full of MAP images and slogans e.g. 'love is love'. Also, how come Granpa is a grandfather if he is exclusively gay? Somewhat confusing. About ten years ago I came across a PSHE book which had a section on accepting people's varied sexuality. It posited a society in which everyone was homosexual and children were assumed to be homosexual, but one boy was straight - no explanation of how children arrived if everyone is same sex attracted....which was worth a discussion in itself. It was for late secondary school and was entirely unerotic, unlike 'Grandpa's Pride' which has seriously worrying images.

Grammarnut · 24/08/2023 08:37

Yes, Biff is a girl. There appears to be some 'cottaging' going on if the hat flying off is an indication. Why?

Mochudubh · 24/08/2023 09:11

I haven’t read the book, but I assume grandpa is bi.

Cheekymawbot · 24/08/2023 09:22

Yuck . No one gives a f what consenting adults do in private ,whether that is gay grandpa and his husband but this creepy nonsense? Total grooming! Honestly that nursery is dodgy as hell- check their hard drive! They should not be caring for wee ones !

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/08/2023 09:26

Oh ffs

This sets things back years. All the fighting by lesbians and gay men to not be seen as perverts, just regular people doing regular boring every day things like working and having a family.

We kinda got there. For a while. But the TQ+ bits entire identity relies on victimhood status and to achieve that they need to destroy everything that the LGB fought for and gained which is what shit like this is doing. Could have just been a same sex couple ome being a dr the other a teacher and a family day out. Bondage gear is unnecessary.
. Its selfish. So bloody selfish.

Dramatico · 24/08/2023 10:52

I see the usuao TRA suspects are on Twitter giving it the whole "There's nothing erotic about these images and if you think there is then there's something wrong with YOU!"

They really do love their DARVO tactics.

Takes the biscuit for disingenuousness.

It is real. The panels were in one of my daughter's books last year. I couldn't believe it when I saw it.

SamW98 · 24/08/2023 15:45

Looks like Biff Chip and Kipper were ahead of the curve - they’ve found grandads box of special sex toys

And grandad looks suspiciously like a disgraced 70’s pop star whose name is rhyming slang
