EXACTLY THIS!!

SamW98 · 22/08/2023 23:27

Publisher Andersen Press said: 'We stand by our author and illustrator Harry Woodgate and their book Grandad's Pride.
'We believe it is a faithful representation of Pride Celebrations and Pride Parades around the country enjoyed by many families.
'We discussed the images of the Pride parade during our stringent and robust editorial process and decided collectively that we should show a true representation of what a Pride march looks like and what the many children who attend these events see.
'We consider accusations of 'hidden messages' to be baseless, deeply offensive and homophobic.'

Same old BS every time - if you don’t like it you’re homophobic. Pathetic but entirely predictable

Some people in society have become so enamored/blinded by gender identity and queer theory that they are no longer fit to be in positions of responsibility with regards young children.

They can no longer be trusted to actually put the welfare of the child above all else.

Their response about it not being a problem because the children didn't know what bondage gear was. 4 year olds don't tend to know what sexual assault is either but you wouldn't want some forty year old bloke fiddling with the kids after lunch whilst you brushed it off with oh don't worry the kids just think it's tickling.

NotBadConsidering · 23/08/2023 01:52

'We believe it is a faithful representation of Pride Celebrations and Pride Parades around the country enjoyed by many families.”

Well of course it is, because fetish gear, BDSM wear, pup play and just blatant exposure of penises IS what happens at Pride parades all around the country and many idiotic families don’t care about safeguarding.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 23/08/2023 01:54

Yes, most families enjoy bondage gear.
Ugh.

EllieBellend · 23/08/2023 02:12

There's just been a heated discussion about this on GB News. Was reading something so not really listening but the presenter was outraged and the guest was defending it as a beautiful story.

dcbc1234 · 23/08/2023 02:24

Wonder what our 'wonderful' Education Secretary Gillian Keegan thinks about this dreadful book being in UK schools?
Wonder what Rishi Sunak the PM thinks?
When is the faux-Tory Government going to do something to stop this happening to our children?
When is the Labour opposition going to get off the fence and hold the Government to account for their inaction despite their warm words? Never probably as they are fully stonewalled and on board with this child abuse.

FrancescaContini · 23/08/2023 06:23

”Stringent and robust editorial process” yeah right.

There’s another thread where people pick up on the MAP “Easter eggs” in the illustrations

Yes, I was on the original thread which had a lot of detail from the book pointed out as inappropriate. The whole books is packed full of imagery and coded messages. Dodgy as fuck on every level. Good on the parents.

Worldgonecrazy · 23/08/2023 06:52

It’s seriously disturbing that other parents haven’t removed their children.

loislovesstewie · 23/08/2023 06:58

The author uses they/them pronouns apparently. And I really don't understand why more people aren't up in arms about this. NONE of this is age appropriate.

ChatBFP · 23/08/2023 06:58

The publisher's quote is horrendous. Isn't it homophobic to push the idea that this is a feature of gay relationships or relationships that gay people want kids to see as a matter of course (it might be a feature of Pride, but that's why there are separate family events)?

mirax · 23/08/2023 07:02

If it is a realistic depiction of Pride events, then it is clear that Pride is highly unsuitable for children. Btw, was that a hijabi lurking in one of the illustrations? Does the local mosque send a contingent to Pride?

BernardSure · 23/08/2023 07:11

Men dressing up in Hijabs and saying they are Muslim women is also a thing. Do not google this!

It was a huge red flag and I would never trust a pre school who had the book.

Apparently a family where the female people wearing hijabs from a very young age will be very supportive of everyone at the pride march and take part in the parade. I have basic knowledge about the cultural mores for Muslim women, is this likely?

Or is this not likely and is a male storyteller attempting to exaggerate the degree of acceptance of LGBT people within a community ? I am not doubting that many Muslim people are accepting, I am questioning if someone who dresses a very small child in a hijab would be in the parade.

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 23/08/2023 07:32

I think a couple should make an appt to look round the nursery with a view to sending their child there and turn up in full bondage gear and see if they’re allowed in

I know people have already mentioned the other thread but the author has said he put hidden messages in his illustrations! Is the publisher saying that's a lie?!

Urgh I thought I could link to my post but I can't.

Rosie50 · 23/08/2023 07:49

Can I ask what MAP is supposed to stand for? Saw refs to it on other thread but don't know what it means..

Thoughtful2355 · 23/08/2023 07:51

thing is, if i was a gay guy i would actually be really annoyed at being percieved as someone who goes around in bondage or " funky" sexual outfits. Yes some people do but its very rare to see someone wearing bondage gear outside of the bedroom!!

Gay men are the same as any straight person!!! They just love Men instead of woman!! Why are they being shown as differentely dressed or Overly sexual ?? Of course yes you do get them and honestly it makes me sick.! id never get away with going out dressed like that, and i wouldnt expect anyone to accept it.

Helleofabore · 23/08/2023 07:52

MAP stands for minor attracted person.

it is an attempt to change the language away from pedophile.

Rosie50 · 23/08/2023 07:49

People have created the acronym MAP - Minor Attracted Person - to rebrand paedophilia.

Helleofabore · 23/08/2023 07:55

As in ‘minor attracted people’ proudly display the age range of their attraction on their twitter profiles (does Elon still allow this?) because they say they are not acting on it so therefore it is not harming anyone at all.

That is how they are attempting to separate from paedophilia.

It is vile and it is disgusting. And their opinion of what is harm and what is not is warped.

LuckyLerwick · 23/08/2023 07:57

I've just had a look at the Birmingham libraries online catalogue for this book and there IS a copy in Kingstanding library in the childrens section. I don't want books banned or put in a 'special storage' area as per Helen Joyce & Kathleen Stock books etc but surely this shouldn't be on display or available for small children to borrow?!

I don't know whether it's worth emailing the library...not sure as to the extent of capture in Birmingham.
