DS using he/they pronouns

DS is 18, with ADHD, autism and MH issues. I noticed on his Instagram he's now added his pronouns which are he/they.

I'm thinking why the they? Do I talk to him or act as though I haven't seen them? He hasn't told me to use those pronouns.

He's been swept up in an online trend that encourages young people to claim "special" status and extra attention by including counter-intuitive pronouns in their bio.

I wouldn't give it a second thought. It's trendy.
Maybe encourage your son to spend less time on the internet? To interact with the real world a bit more?

In my experience (teacher), autistic children are very drawn to the gender doctrine, because it’s essentially a set of rules to live by, and it gives them a reason to champion their differences. Re: pronouns, you don’t need to use DS’s pronouns in his presence, so it’s not a conversation you need to have right now.
