That’s horrific, surely that’s abuse? The bit about the sound of the vibrator being like white noise conforms that they are and plan to continue having sex in the same room as their 8 year old child.

itsmylife7 · 12/08/2023 20:03

Nothing surprises me anymore but I'm not reading the article. 😡

I thought this too

Appalling

It is abuse and the Graun should know better:

"Sexual abuse: Involves forcing or enticing a child or young person to take part in sexual activities, not necessarily involving a high level of violence, whether or not the child is aware of what is happening. The activities may involve physical contact, including assault by penetration (for example, rape or oral sex) or non-penetrative acts such as masturbation, kissing, rubbing and touching outside of clothing. They may also include non-contact activities, such as involving children in looking at, or in the production of, sexual images, watching sexual activities, encouraging children to behave in sexually inappropriate ways, or grooming a child in preparation for abuse. Sexual abuse can take place online, and technology can be used to facilitate offline abuse. Sexual abuse is not solely perpetrated by adult males. Women can also commit acts of sexual abuse, as can other children."

That's really disturbing. Why can't they have sex in another room? Or when their child is at a hobby or something? And that they both make a point of mentioning it is weird.

WeWereInParis · 12/08/2023 20:45

Haven't they got a sofa? Or a floor with a blanket? Both of those seem preferable!

SaturdayGiraffe · 12/08/2023 20:47

JFC

They…sounds as if they relish the situation.

Almahart · 12/08/2023 20:48

I agree, this is really not okay

LizzieSiddal · 12/08/2023 20:50

Wtf??? The fact the Guardian don’t know this is illegal, tells you a lot about those who run that newspaper.

MotherEarthisaTerf · 12/08/2023 20:51

This is repugnant. Why would they post this?

If the child is sound asleep move to another room (and lock/barricade the fucking door)

HobnobsChoice · 12/08/2023 20:56

This is absolutely not ok. It's really really odd at best and at its worst I would probably be deleted. It's an offence to engage in sexual activity in the presence of a child. Millions of parents realise this and resort to doing it on the sofa when the kids are asleep or when the kids are at school etc. I absolutely couldn't have sex with my children around, my brain just doesn't switch off the mother mode. It's really disturbing the Guardian printed this and more so the couple felt it was something worth sharing

Jewel1968 · 12/08/2023 20:58

I had assumed they were in a different room. They don't explicitly say they are in the same room as child although the white noise comment madee pause. Perhaps I missed the reference to being in same room

BellsMoon · 12/08/2023 21:08

I'm not a parent but is it commonplace to have sex with an 8 year is sleeping in the same room as you?

Not unheard of in developing countries where there is a lack of privacy and space and a matter of necessity.

But here, in the UK, in this day and age, with multiple rooms in the house? No. Absolutely not. Very uncomfortable reading about it to be honest. The whole thing is grim.

EarthSight · 12/08/2023 21:55

My instant reaction was to question wtf are doing it in the same room as an 8 year old?? Just weird and totally inappropriate. They're basically co-opting their child into their sex life and the child could be pretending to be asleep.

What raised my eyebrows was that it was just casually mentioned in both of their pieces, like it's just a matter of fact thing, and then the Guardian published it which adds another layer!

OP posts:
EarthSight · 12/08/2023 21:57

@Jewel1968 I think it's the same room by the sound of the 'logistical difficulties' they're having.

OMG that's really disturbing. The vibrator as white noise - especially for a child who is EIGHT - is grim.

Supersimkin2 · 12/08/2023 22:01

GuardIan are terrific perv-pushers sometimes. Wouldn’t date whoever commissions all the yikes pieces.

Yeah they've got form for this.

'Interrupted by a delivery man whilst trying to find a vibrator to use during breastfeeding because it made you horny'

That would be sexual abuse then. Or in the case of the Graun....a top tip!

'Interesting' article in the Guardian sex column

Hahaha! Yes I noticed that after posting. I blame Spotify for loudly announcing every few minutes that I might want to join the MET. The algorithm has decided this is my calling.

Daftmum47 · 13/08/2023 00:36

This article is shocking.

About 6 weeks ago I cancelled my subscription and member services to the Guardian.

It was very cathartic telling them that no, it wasn’t the cost of living, but yes, it was 100% down to their editorial line.

The guy on the call said they’d been receiving a few cancellations from women on the grounds of the paper’s stance on women’s rights.

Libelula21 · 13/08/2023 00:49

I’ve written to the Guardian to complain.

RojoCarlottaValdez · 13/08/2023 01:02

Ack!
It's a fucking awful rag that gets more ridiculously degenerate as time goes on. Absolutely rank. I think they now aim to shock. It used to be a great publication, but that was a long time ago.

Child sexual abuse

A child is defined as any person under the age of 18. Child sexual abuse involves forcing or inciting a child to take part in sexual activity, whether or not the child is aware of what is happening and not necessarily involving a high level of violence.
This may involve physical contact including rape or oral sex, or non-penetrative acts such as masturbation, kissing, rubbing and touching outside of clothing. They may also include non-contact activities, such as involving children in looking at, or in the production of, sexual images, watching sexual activities, encouraging children to behave in sexually inappropriate ways, or exploiting or grooming a child in preparation for abuse (including via the internet) or prostitution. Child sexual abuse can be committed by both men and women, or other children.Normal

They are very naive to assume the eight year olds sleeps through the sex. If the child wakes up and witnesses it they are then committing a crime.
