Did anyone else mis-read the headline in the link as 'Furry children' and think there are worse things to be angry about Blush

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/08/2023 16:45

A number of people on X have commented that Mx Slaybia is AFAB Hmm as if that makes it absolutely fine to chuck red stained tampons at small children and simulate free bleeding in the middle of the afternoon.

I am old. When my children were young and we were thinking of ways to pass the time in the school holidays, we thought of going to the cinema, or to a castle, or for a walk in the country, or to a museum or art gallery, or swimming, or to the beach. It never occurred to us to take them to an event which most adults would find edgy and disturbing. Where are social services?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/08/2023 16:46

Operation Let them Speak - the grim glory of queer theory in action, often involving children.

Itsnotrightbutitsok · 12/08/2023 16:51

How was she ever allowed to perform?

What is the actual message she’s trying to deliver?
Because if it’s about normalising periods then why is she dressed like an alien, saying she’s non-binary and wearing pads as a belt - none of which is normal.

Its such a slap in the face for LGB people who’ve been fighting for years for equal rights and wanted to be treated like everyone else, just so some idiot like this can take over the entire event and become the main focus.

Whats sad is that parents would have taken their children to this to be inclusive and celebrate pride but now they’d re-think going again.

TheJRTwontLetMeBe · 12/08/2023 16:51

Thing is, this country has gone so full on, state funded, mandated and approved "clown world" that when someone with obvious serious mental health issues is given the green light to perform a grossly offensive act a family event, everyone nods and pretends this is perfectly normal and acceptable, so desperate are they to virtue signal and be seen as being on the "right side of history". Someone needs to be held accountable for this.

Froodwithatowel · 12/08/2023 15:38

If 'being unashamedly queer' involves behaving like this and shouting abuse at anyone who does not unconditionally enable you, then frankly shame had a purpose in society and needs bringing back.

Absolutely agree.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 12/08/2023 16:56

Excellent. I'm sorry for any children who were distressed, but their parents deserve everything they get, and - from a GC point of view - this behaviour could not be more perfect, to illustrate our point.

Every time something like this happens, it wakes up more of the public to the threat from fetishists and pervs using trans identities (NB this is not all trans people, of course). How many parents are going to read this and think, "Yup, I'm totally cool with someone like that sharing a changing room with my daughter,"?

Keep up the good work, DQs!

user9630721458 · 12/08/2023 17:01

I can't see how this is a family friendly event. Poor children were probably frightened.

She is female.

And I don’t think it’s fair to blame the parents unless they knew what it was like beforehand (it says some of them walked off and it’s had loads of complaints, so I doubt they did).

I’ve taken my DD to loads of pride events and none of it has been like this.

I do agree though that perhaps the more things like this happen the more people will put age limits on things etc.
Too many parents will try and be woke and attend unsuitable performances (a thread about drag Queen strippers comes to mind) but I think most would be horrified and think that these should be banned for anyone under a certain age, just like women strip clubs would be.

If people are stupid enough to enjoy this sort of thing then it should be an adults only event, not during a family day out.

ArabeIIaScott · 12/08/2023 17:05

'The sign is then reversed to show the message 'We will bleed on your period, capitalism'.'

Righty-ho, pet.

oneleggedspider · 12/08/2023 17:12

There was a warning given about periods and sensitive subject matter before this performer started. Why would you hang around for it, with your kids, and then get offended and complain?

I think some pride performers (and go-ers) are a bit fed up at the extent of the 'family friendly' direction that the organisers seem to be trying to take. Our local one is basically a fun fair for the kids.

I think they should have had this performer on later, and should have a disclaimer at all events that performances after 7pm won't necessarily be suitable for children.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/08/2023 17:14

The DM says this happened around 2pm in the afternoon.

oneleggedspider · 12/08/2023 17:15

The performance sounds insane and I wouldn't want to watch it, but I don't think the performer is at fault. It's 70% the organisers for putting the act on too early in the day, and 30% the parents standing there to watch after being warned that it might not be suitable.

ResisterRex · 12/08/2023 17:23

It was on at 2pm.

The TV watershed is 9pm.

If you can't broadcast it, then you logically can't show it in the open air either.

Definitely female. I thought so clothed, but there’s no doubt unclothed. So it looks like that performance involved throwing tampons as well. But it was in an indoor venue, presumably a ticketed and age-restricted event.

I don't think they should have performed at all. It's just gross! Why would anyone find it funny?

LoobiJee · 12/08/2023 17:38

“What is the actual message she’s trying to deliver?

Perhaps the alien costume was a change introduced to take account of the performance being outdoors. It’s one thing to strip down to your knickers in an indoor ticketed adult-only venue (as per the video linked in gaspode’s post). Quite another on a stage in a field with the general public. Or perhaps the performer genuinely, but wholly misguidedly, thought the alien costume was sufficient to make it ‘family friendly’?

DdraigGoch · 12/08/2023 17:38

I should think that anyone who hasn't been fast asleep over the last couple of years ought to have guessed that this event wasn't going to be suitable for five year olds.

Phos · 12/08/2023 17:39

I don't know why anyone drags their kids along to Pride in the first place.

VoldeMortlake · 12/08/2023 17:40

nepeta · 12/08/2023 16:23

So if this had been a drag king event, the performer would have thrown condoms at the children? Or worn sperm stains all over her trousers?

I tend to ask myself those kinds of reversed questions so that I can see clearly how much of drag queening is about ridiculing the female body and its functions (exaggerated breasts which in one example shot out supposed milk, pretending to give birth to a doll on stage in another example) now ridicule of menstruation.

Even if all this was seen as acceptable entertainment among adults (as who doesn't like a little misogyny to spice up the night), why would teaching it to children be seen as progressive?

Next week I'm being recorded debating drag with a drag queen for a podcast.

Thought I'd do some homework, so went to Drag Night at the Clapham Grand, one of London's leading drag events.

The main act's show was stripping to reveal enormous fake breasts. 'She' got a geeky looking man from the audience onstage, squirted him with fake cream from the breasts, then squirted the audience, including close-ups into the mouths of a few individuals. There was lots of banter about what sluts the drag queens all were, and about licking each other's arses. That was the show.

I'm open-minded, and in favour of gender nonconformity, but it was the most misogynistic bilge I've ever seen.

borntobequiet · 12/08/2023 17:45

When I was teaching, after the “periods” bit of PSHE, when tampons were handed out, we used to find them thrown all over the place (there were competitions to wet them and try to make them stick to the ceiling).
Maybe this is all that Mx Whateverhernameis took from such lessons. TBF, it was probably the fun bit.

Imnobody4 · 12/08/2023 17:49

I'm just bewildered. What's political about this. A waste of good tampons- eco warriors should have a word.

Do these idiots really think they're revolutionaries, they have no idea what oppression really is. Just the idiot children of post modernism.

I've always thought this whole breaking boundaries would end up with the demand for the human right to sh*t on the dinner table.

Brokendaughter · 12/08/2023 18:03

I think Mx "I'll trade on female things but pretend I am not one" has just put on a performance that counts as child abuse.

If a report went to social services that I had wrapped bloody pads around my waist, smeared blood down my thighs pretending it was period blood then grabbed tampons with my blood covered hands to throw at my own children, they WOULD be investigating an obviously unhealthy situation for any child to be put in - even if it wasn't real blood & I wore a crappy wig while doing it & denying I was female.

They should be investigating this person too.
And banning her from ever working near children again.

Why is it that every single thing these people seem to do would be regarded as a safeguarding concern if done by a normal person?

I used to think taboos were harmful, back when I hadn't got the faintest idea what they were protecting me from having to deal with.
Now I'm starting to think they were essential parts of safeguarding women & children.
