The Australian Government is putting forward a bill to fine social media platforms for publishing "misinformation" - as defined by the Australian Government! Worrying on any level, and I'd be willing to bet that the statement "Women don't have penises" will be labelled misinformation.

Labor's Censorship Bill is an attack on free speech

Thanks @NotYourCisterinAus that's yet another amazing speach that as always hits the nail squarely on the head

She’s amazing. I also love the JKR references:

Umbridgean
High Inquistors

Must use those more in conversation and posts here!

She is amazing. But are there any others joining her from the major 3 parties?

Out of interest, because I am only getting ABC feed, have the Aust democrats been really quiet on this issue? I assume they are ‘supportive’ in general of prioritising males over female people. But they don’t seem all that vocal. I often wonder what Natasha Stott Despoja would have said and done. She didn’t seem to say anything as the ambassador for women and girls while she was in post, or did I miss it all?

I was going to ask whether the Australian Democrats existed any more, but then I found their website: https://www.democrats.org.au/ I wonder if they're still interested in keeping the bastards honest?

So, it wasn’t just me who has missed what they are saying. They seem a shadow of their past selves. Maybe they just decided to leave it alone because it would be controversial. If you read their aims they state they are all about evidence based science and empathy and fairness. If they make a peep about what the science does show, they are going to be labelled Nazis.

I think they are playing possum on this issue because ‘keeping the bastards honest’ would mean burning their historic alliances.

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and the Arts is looking for public feedback on the bill: https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/have-your-say/new-acma-powers-combat-misinformation-and-disinformation

There's only five days left, so if anyone has something they want to say....
