They’re discussing the trans story in the Telegraph today, the presenter doesn’t sound like a TRA but so far she’s spoken to Tatchell (obviously) and now a trans activist 🙄

And now a trans woman caller who keeps staring it’s all science and children know they’re gender from 3-5 and should be allowed to transition, in favour of puberty blockers etc etc.
So the full first half hour is all biased in favour of transitioning children!

IcakethereforeIam · 05/08/2023 17:31

What's the trans story? Thanks for the heads up.

Whu · 05/08/2023 17:33

oops - *their.

@IcakethereforeIam that the nhs will now be taking referrals from age 7 for gender dysphoria.

IcakethereforeIam · 05/08/2023 17:34

I think I saw that in the DM. I'll find a link, no paywall.

Goldshelfie · 05/08/2023 17:46

It’s all very be kind. I hope we get an opposing viewpoint before the end! I wish I was able to call but I think I’d get all flustered.

I think the editors of these phone ins are cut from the same cloth as those librarians and Waterstones staff hiding GC books.

If you were to view these calls as reflective of the population at large, you'd think the British people were 90% pro TRA.

I know, it’s quite depressing how they seem to curate these shows. But at least we are hearing about this more, I remember when this was hardly ever talked about on radio and finding a 5 minute snippet about sport or something was a big deal so it’s progress I suppose!

I thought Shelagh Fogerty of LBC hosted her Maya Forstater/Robin White discussion over the Costa story perfectly. There was a caller calling Sex Matters a literal hate group, and when Shelagh supported them and Maya for their mission in providing evidence based info and policy, this caller just couldn't handle it. Shelagh was to be commended for keeping her cool and contending this caller.

We could do with more presenters like her, she walked a very tight tightrope.

Goldshelfie · 05/08/2023 18:16

I didn’t know that had happened! What day, I’ll get it on catch up if you can remember?

And yes to loving Shelagh, she gets it

I listen to Shelagh most days but also missed that one. She is brilliant on the subject (and generally!)

RealityFan · 05/08/2023 18:32

Consummate professional. She's really empathetic and common sense/calm personified. I was hugely impressed by her walking a delicate path. Interestingly, or should I say predictably, the only raised blood pressures were from the callers unable to cope with any criticism of the gender ideologue side, the ranting that Sex Matters was a hate group was really painful to listen to. The caller pleaded with Shelagh that Maya's organisation was poisonous to trans people and the mission to provide info for policy decisions was just a front. And that more info wasn't even needed.

Shelagh had to really cope with a hugely emotionally distressed caller, and she provided masterclass. A firm refuting that Sex Matters or Maya herself were transphobic, that they were honourable in their intent.
