Assaults on GC women

Crankywiddershins · 05/08/2023 14:46

Can anyone point me to a list of occasions where women have been physically assaulted for expressing GC views?
I know that Posie Parker and another woman were assaulted in New Zealand and about the incident at the recent women won't wheesht but a quick Google search shows many other cases and I wondered if anyone is compiling a list?
Thanks.

Reports from Spain and France of feminists attacked at Pride marches by trans activists

this is awful and I'd heard about 90% of these already but to see them listed is really upsetting. The minimising language used by the police and reporters around these incidents is worth listing separately imo. Shocking and sad to read.

Women in Manchester were 'manhandled' in Manchester at a protest

Where were the police? Those men in balaclavas look terrifying.

CorruptedCauldron · 06/08/2023 08:37

Also:

  • The trans Starbucks worker in Southampton who physically picked up and threw out a female customer over a perceived misgendering. This TW also emptied out the woman’s handbag, screamed and clapped in her face, called her a Karen, and lunged at her husband who was filming the incident.

  • At a planned screening of Adult Human Female in Edinburgh, TW Robyn Woof was reportedly charged with assault for spitting at women. Angry TRAs stopped the screening from going ahead.

Amazing archivism Arabella
Also worth thinking what constitutes attacks OP.
In most people’s book not all attacks are hand to hand physical, TRAs have also tried psychological attacks and intimidation.

eg the London meeting after which the TRAs encircled a pub that some of the women went to afterwards, being intimidating to stop them leaving or others entering. They were outside it chanting ‘Burn It Down! Burn It Down!’ so women and staff felt very unsafe to stay and couldn’t safely leave either.

There was the bomb threat too which the police took completely seriously so was clearly not just some pathetic man mucking about

the doxxing (putting home address on the internet) of multiple women even including JKR to intimidate and endanger women and their families

the swatting- including Justine MN founder’s home. (this is sending armed SWAT teams over to a victim’s home on a fake seige or attack ruse) at night so that armed police encircle with guns and violently raid it to ‘free’ the occupants from a non existent gun man, obviously terrifying the occupants.

death threats (individuals and their children)

rape threats (same)

sending sexually graphic material to intimidate

Slothtoes · 06/08/2023 08:41

x-post JacquelinePot re bomb threat

ArabeIIaScott · 06/08/2023 08:42

Yes, but if we add threats made this thread will become scattered and frankly enormous.

Maybe worth a separate thread for threats? Stick to assault for this one.

Slothtoes · 06/08/2023 08:55

Noted absolutely that the length of the list would get out of hand very quickly sadly.

OP can you say any more about your focus on this one particular aspect of the wider picture?

WarriorN · 06/08/2023 09:06

Dawn Furness, an active member of the Green Party who has a garden that needs digging:

(Words taken from her plot)

Green Party officers indicated support for David Challenor after his conviction, and members who challenged those expressions of support were disciplined. Even those who – like me - expressed solidarity with those challenging support for David Challenor were disciplined.

I was physically assaulted twice, and when this was reported to officers, their only reaction was to laugh.

WarriorN · 06/08/2023 09:08

(Challenor context:

Green Party policies on how women are defined and treated within the Party were put in place by David and Aimee Challenor and were left in place after David Challenor was imprisoned for 22 years for child sex offences.)

Wow, thanks for the thread OP and all the other contributors. It’s quite sobering to see so many attacks listed. I agree it would be good to document them, this is a good start!

It's making me feel quite queasy, seeing so many tbh.

Although he’s not a woman, veteran gay rights activist Fred Sergeant was beaten up by trans activists for gender critical views.

Crankywiddershins · 06/08/2023 12:04

I knew there was a reason why I never start conversations on social media, I just can't keep up with you all! Looking at you @ArabeIIaScott
@Slothtoes most of the points you raise have already started to coalesce in my mind. I think it needs separate categories for actual proven assault (video evidence or a conviction) and cases where it's alleged (even if there's good reason to believe) but not proven. Also the different forms of attack that you point to, which was part of my reason for starting the thread, to see all the different strategies used, whether and how things are escalating and so on.
My starting point was a conversation about jkr being a transphobe/GC and if that justified death and rape threats, which everyone agreed it doesn't. It got me thinking that having a resource to be able to counter the "be kind" people might be useful, to point out cases and ask whether punching someone who disagrees with you is "kind" but I take the point that it's not just physical.

Thanks Cranky I appreciate hearing your thoughts on it, agree with you that any of this whole horrible picture is really good to document. And you’re definitely right that it would benefit from some careful organising into categories to be as easy to look up as possible

Tanith · 06/08/2023 20:02

Paula Lamont bullied off her own picket line by a group of trans activists that included Tara Wolf (convicted of assaulting Maria at Hyde Park Corner):

Has anyone mentioned the meeting at Millwall Football Club? Trans activists terrified the club into cancelling the event.

IwantToRetire · 06/08/2023 20:25

I agree that if it were possible it would be good to show a list of actual physical attacks.

But there is no doubt that the levels of hate and encourage to violence are what has created the environment where groups like antifa and our very own MJB think incitement to violence is okay. And applauded.

Does any remember the exhibition at the San Fracisco Library that consisted of images about violence against "terfs".

And slightly different but totally disgusting the targetting of Vancouver Rape Crisis to the extent that dead rats were pinned to the front door.

This is the chilling effect. Demonising women through language to the level that targetting a centre providing support to women who have been raped is seen as a "legitimate" target.

Only extreme MRAs who use trans politics as a cover platform, and Incels would have this logic.

And the authorities stand by. As they did / do when anti abortionists, target clinics.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/08/2023 20:38

Several gay men allies have been physically attacked after events. Afraid I can't remember the names Sad.

Waitwhat23 · 06/08/2023 20:47

This is a list of Women's Place UK meetings which have been disrupted (by bomb threats, venue cancellations, banging on windows etc). Not physical assaults but intimidation and aggression -

The incredible environmental, women’s rights and actual social justice and equality (before the meaning of all that was totally fucked) campaigner, Helen Steel: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/3076773-Helen-Steels-statement-about-being-assaulted-on-Saturday

Surrounded for over an hour by a screaming TRA mob, manhandled and only protected from much worse happening physically by friends who stuck their necks out. At the Authoritarian Anarchist Book Fair 2017. Absolutely terrifying.
