Lebedev editorial on free speech and cancel culture. He discusses the trans debate silencing tactics.

Worth a read and will be interesting to see what the paper does going forward. Challenging IPSO guidelines would be a good start.

IPSO guidelines have recently updated their guidance. Not good enough but trying to add clarity. Lots of lightbulbs going off regarding TRA's and their strangling of free speech but IPSO still too in hock to US culture

I'm no fan of Lebedev, but I look forward to this series and fingers crossed for the rest of ES reporting.

I saw this last night - interesting. One more for the bandwagon, I hope.

Evening standard is pretty unreadable these days and like metro ( which is much worse) has been “woke “ the last few years.
maybe ledebdev has fallen out with khan? I ‘m always suspicious of ulterior motives of the editors and journalists with these free papers ( paid for ones too of course)
I might read it to see their pov though

I think this is one of the parallel issues where concerns come from slightly different basic positions, but sometimes overlap and align.

I think many on the left will not think there is loss of freedom of speech but that there has bee a "progressive" move to protect people from offence. Based on their concept that they know better who needs protecting, and how offence is caused. Into which of course the rights and beliefs of women are never considered!

So it seems a positive move as it will give the issue of women being erased an airing, but expect to see a lot of people saying this is just right wing reactionary, and shouldn't get invovled.

(Also quite hypocritical as both the evening standard and metro regularly censor any pro GC comments on articles.)
