A fantastic panel at the Taliesin Arts theatre, Swansea University on 31st August - Kate Harris from LGB Alliance, Victoria Smith, Dr Laura Favaro and Helen Staniland.
A Resisters group have really pulled out all the stops to put this on. Tickets are cheap - both women and men are welcome.
Great if this could be supported and made a big success. Wales is badly captured and this will be an important event.

What a fantastic bunch of women. If I could get there, I would. Hope it goes well..

FannyCann · 31/07/2023 22:19

Sounds fab. Hope I can go.

EnfysPreseli · 31/07/2023 22:32

I bought tickets as soon as I saw this on Twitter. If the weather's good we're planning a picnic on the beach first. The Taliesin is within easy walking distance of the sands, so hoping the weather is better by then. It should be excellent anyway with that line-up.

Well done Swansea Bay ReSisters for organising. We badly need to raise awareness of the issues in Wales. Welsh Government have their fingers firmly in their ears and are still in the thrall of Stonewall.

WelshSerafina · 01/08/2023 00:58

See you there - a picnic is a great idea 😀

I will be there with a few friends. Looking forward to it :-)

Great stuff. There were anti-woman protestors at the last Swansea Uni event but decent security kept them contained.

As others have said this is badly needed in Wales.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 01/08/2023 08:01

Swansea U former student here - will be there in spirit. Best wishes for it.

WelshSerafina · 02/08/2023 00:22

Yes I went to this and it was a really good event - great speakers and so important we keep raising the profile of women’s events in Wales

Can untravellable hags like me buy solidarity tickets for others? Would love to pay for a ticket for a local woman and/or daughter who might otherwise be humming over it.

I did look at the website but I couldn't see.

EnfysPreseli · 02/08/2023 09:19

When I was booking my tickets I noticed a pay-it-forward or solidarity ticket option just under the general ticket option on the right hand side of the web page once you get into the 'select your seat' stage in Ticketsolve.

The Student Union put out a message about the event hinting they would like to close it down if they could:

Thanks Smile

Saltovinegar · 07/08/2023 17:15

I would love a spokesperson from the student union to tell me why a discussion about women and girls has anything to do with trans rights and why such a discussion is a problem.

Why do trans rights have to be shoehorned in to everything?

(I know I'll never get an answer!)

HagoftheNorth · 07/08/2023 17:31

Might email the union and ask them why it isn’t ok to discuss issues affecting women and girls, and in what ways they are standing with their female students who are neither trans nor NB. Their email is at the bottom of that statement if anyone else, especially parents of Swansea students (who are, in general, paying for lots of this) also has questions

😂That's the union saying the quiet bit out loud isn't it?
That talking about "legal and social issues affecting women and girls in Wales" is transphobic. Unbelievable that they take a stance like that in a democratic society.

fromorbit · 07/08/2023 18:01

Graffiti on the outside of Taliesin placed over weekend. Pretty scary for people that work there. Sounds like Police have been contacted.

Thread here on abusive messages which have been sent. Talk of the the event being organised by "terrorists":

https://twitter.com/WRNWales/status/1688251597443231744

Following the attack in Aberdeen this is worrying. The security last time was very good though.

NitroNine · 08/08/2023 04:44

Yep, someone on Twitter has been accusing the organisers of being terrorists (tagging in various police agencies & the CPS); Goebbels Mk II (lots of “you’re the Nazis, we’re the Jews”, in fact - as ever, particularly insulting to all the “TERFy” Jewish women; those who, Jewish or not, lost family in the Holocaust &/or have family who survived it; & those who have been [or “just” would be] targeted by Neo-Nazis); & seeking to radicalise others with their propaganda.

Amusingly (bolding mine):
You radicalise others using deception & propaganda towards hatred & violence towards trans people

As radicalised extremist and terrorist, I fully expect you to maintain your position.

That may be the best combined DARVO, self-own, & “saying the quiet bit out loud” I’ve ever seen.

(And jic: this Twitter/X user is deliberately inciting harassment of & VAWG who share the protected belief human sex is binary & immutable; & trying to redefine the free assembly of women, their speech, & their legal rights to single-sex spaces & services as “terrorism” - as well as, in traditional style, blaming women for MVAM [M here being male, regardless of ID]. They’re also calling an Irish Senator a terrorist & threatening them with arrest: the Gardaí will not making such an arrest, so one can only conclude that is a threat of/attempt to incite vigilante action in the form of a citizen’s arrest. They are making wild unfounded allegations, yes, but we have previously seen alarming support of public encouragement - in the criminal sense - to VAWG simply if they were suspected of believing human sex is immutable. Women’s rights are not anti-trans - this individual’s behaviour is, however, rabidly anti-women, so it is not unreasonable to highlight what they’ve [actually] said.)

WelshSerafina · 08/08/2023 09:13

Yes - there’s a pay it forward option there. It’s great if those who are able to, do support other women to come.
This event is open to men too

I don't know how I missed it (pay it forward) on the website the first time! Tired eyes I suppose.

NitroNine · 08/08/2023 16:56

Er, so, latest on account I mentioned above is that they are, according to We Are Fair Cop on Twitter, a serving police officer. Furthermore, they’ve form for similar antics, but two police services & the CPS deciding that it was just bantz (I assume that was followed by “lol”) has presumably emboldened them, hence this escalation.

What a contrast to certain other cases - here a serving police officer seeks out & harasses people (mostly women) & it’s totally fine. Maybe Caroline should consider a change of career for the protection it apparently offers? I mean, in a sane world she wouldn’t need it, but here on the other side of the Looking Glass…?

That individual has been tagging in the venue saying the organisers are terrorists and that they will have blood on their hands. What an irresponsible idiot - if it is a police officer, then that is just a whole new level. Reckon a formal complaint has to be made to his force - for all the good it will do!
In other news, the University West Ham society have now said how upset they are at the event and that they will protest. What delicate little darlings! https://twitter.com/wrnwales/status/1688959755664949248?s=46&t=v-c-_XT3Lv6Ow-vgwIBPeA

I saw about the Hammers fans WelshSerafina 😵‍💫

On the surface we’re a long way from the ICF - & indeed I don’t reckon this lot would be up for a ruck with the likes of the Bushwackers of yore - but those lads sound like they want to set up a [postmodern] tribute act. Of course, having gone to such efforts to clear up their rep, a gang of lads in masks engaging in VAWG (or “just” spending hours harassing & intimidating them) probably isn’t a look the Irons want. Indeed, I think the wee dotes have breached the Club’s Supporter Conduct Charter. Sadly I didn’t get a screenshot of their, er, contribution to the discussion, so I cannot contact the Club with my concerns. West Ham invest pretty seriously women’s football - they’ve an academy as well as having multiple international players whose World Cup fortunes they’re busily reporting on at the moment. They know what a woman is; & they’ll be across the science that says no male, however they ID, [&/or whatever DSD they may have,] should be playing in the female game.
