Put The Dorchester on your shit lists. They gifted Dylan and some other man cosplaying as a woman a week free in one of their suites. Dylan is also now a Dorchester "partner" so I assume further freebies to follow. Not sure what he's done to warrant a free weeks stay in one of their lovely suites but ok.

Bit of a shame for us as my ASD daughter and I have a little tradition of going there for afternoon tea in the Christmas holidays. Lots of lovely places in London though, I'm sure we'll find somewhere else but slightly annoying as she likes the familiarity and knowing what to expect.

Grifters gonna grift

Maerchentante · 26/07/2023 18:45

Ironic, though, as the Dorchester is owned by the Sultanate of Brunei.

QueenHippolyta · 26/07/2023 18:52

Try the Connaught; they used to have a wonderful tea ages ago.

tt9 · 26/07/2023 19:26

tbh Dorchester food has long gone downhill in my book. went there last few years back for a Sunday roast - poor service, subpar food - very meh. not been back. claridges anyway over the Dorchester. although claridges afternoon tea has also gone downhill... but their dinner/lunch at the Reading Room still fab especially over xmas

WinterTrees · 26/07/2023 19:33

What a strange move.

I'm pretty sure their core client base won't appreciate them pandering to tacky American Influencers of any stripe. Doesn't it rather cheapen the brand?

Surely the heritage values of the Dorchester are based entirely around exclusivity. Very foolish of them to trade that in to jump on the inclusivity bandwagon.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 26/07/2023 19:42

The Dorchester's Bud lite moment. 😅

Gothambutnotahamster · 26/07/2023 19:43

Totally ridiculous!

BodegaSushi · 26/07/2023 19:44

They were already on my list years ago after Brunei made adultery and gay sex punishable by stoning to death, can't believe you were still going Confused

EsmaCannonball · 26/07/2023 19:51

I wonder if Brunei is one of those places that will execute you for being gay but permits you to trans the gay away. It might explain why the hotel is keen to land a trans ambassador.

I guess that's all okay if you are getting a free week in a suite, though.

PixieBooo · 26/07/2023 20:09

Awww thank you @QueenHippolyta, I'll add that to our list.

I genuinely had no idea @BodegaSushi! I just thought it was a nice convenient hotel for our tea as it's near where we normally stay. Will definitely research a bit better in future, lesson learnt.

The Berkeley does a fabulous afternoon tea. My son, a classically trained chef, has asked to have afternoon tea there on his birthday, instead of going out for dinner.

Interestingly, Toby Marlowe is one of the “non-binary” writers who wrote Six, about the wives of Henry VIII, who were totally able to identify out of their sex-based oppression.

And the producers of Six are currently actively recruiting for a trans woman to play one of the queens (told this by a casting agent)….

littleripper · 26/07/2023 20:30

That's very poor if Dylan is working for a chain owned by one of the most homophobic regimes in the world

BarqsHasBite · 26/07/2023 20:32

The Winter Garden at the Landmark hotel is amazing for afternoon tea at Christmas.

Just think, if toddler Elizabeth had declared her desire to take up jousting instead of playing with dolls then they could have declared her a boy and Anne Boleyn wouldn't have been judicially murdered.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 26/07/2023 21:51

The Mandarin Oriental has a lovely afternoon tea, Claridges also lovely.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 27/07/2023 07:32

@DorotheaDiamond Do you think that that means Dylan will be in the West End soon? Presumably as either AB or KH which is pretty tasteless and depressing if true.

WearyLady · 27/07/2023 07:34

AB? KH?

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 27/07/2023 07:37

Haven't been for a while, but Browns is a quiet old fashioned London hotel for afternoon tea. It's the inspiration for Agatha Christie's At Bertram's Hotel.

Does Mulvaney have dirt on very influential media people or something? Gender-wank aside, I don't understand his marketing appeal; he looks manic and unwell.

Chersfrozenface · 27/07/2023 08:31

I wonder whether the owners know what the Dorchester's PR department, or more likely PR agency, has been up to.

Bleepbloopbluurp · 27/07/2023 08:37

Of course, that might explain why so few of Henry's wives had children.
