What -if anything- can I say to the school about this?

Just had a leaflet home about the external company coming into the primary school to do PSHE. They mention "LGBTQ" issues are covered in a separate leaflet. I requested it, and while I agree with most of what's in there (about sexism and homophobia and discrimination etc.) I am really unsure about what they will be saying about transgenderism. This reads to me that it's being taught as fact, not as an ideology, and it makes transitioning sound like a gentle, benign process.

I'm not happy about this, but don't know how to approach the school, or even if I can?

I’d be keeping my child away.

Gender questioning children are not trans children.

Hi Op, yes you’re in a position to ask the school when specific subjects are covered. You can also ask for your dc to be excused from the lesson.

I know it’s a bit different but both mine are excused from healthy eating lessons (after D developed anorexia in primary school) and no questions were asked really.

(Unrelated but my favourite was when my DD7 was excused from healthy eating lesson only to be looked after in the next door class, where they were watching a film and all eating sweet & salty popcorn 🤦‍♀️)

It is outrageous to be worrying children with such unnecessary made-up concepts. Let's face it most adults have trouble getting their head around this genderwoo. I would withdraw my DC from school that day if at all possible and tell them that no human beings can change their sex.

I think you should forward that leaflet to Miriam Cates MP and Rishi Sunak and tell him to get it sorted out NOW. This is child endangerment happening on his watch.

I think if schools are insisting on indoctrinating our kids in anti-science, we have to get in first with the pro-science, pro-biological reality message.

Please do complain. As many parents as possible should be getting involved
As a pshe teacher I can tell you our interventions are very much making an impact. This is peaking safeguarding leads left right and centre. Keep on raising awareness on the ground. Often these are taught by non specialists without training and some teachers are very much on board, some have no idea of the consequences of what they teach
Do raise the cass review too
People are busy but parents have so much power in schools honestly. Make governors aware etc.

Agree with @Boomboom22 - we do have power as parents.

My children's school head was all 'be kind' but has radically changed tack, particularly on social transitioning children, and is now on board with caution and pushback.....I wrote several times about the material being used and that children were being taught incorrect science (that there are 3 sexes), pointed out where the resources being used were not compliant with DfE guidelines and that for the gay children in the school, they were effectively being told that their identities weren't valid because they were in fact trans, not same sex attracted.

This is fantastic to hear.

Parents should always speak out to the school on behalf of their children. The children can’t - the younger ones especially don’t yet have the critical thinking skills to question whether what the teacher is telling them is factually correct (before any ethical considerations as to whether gender ideology even has a place on any school curriculum).

I’m happy to read about more and more Safeguarding Leads being peaked. They need to check the materials/organisations being brought into schools in order to protect school children from being exposed to entirely unsuitable, biased “information”.

I've emailed the school expressing my concerns and asking about whether they have a process in place for ensuring content meets their safeguarding standards. Not sure what will happen, but my heart is thumping. I don't like being confrontational.

Well done OP. Every parent that contacts schools represents thousands of others who are worried about this dangerous gaslighting of children.

There’s “being confrontational”, and there’s “speaking out when you have serious concerns about what your child is being exposed to at school”. You’ve done the latter - well done.

ValancyRedfern · 13/07/2023 19:26

You haven't been confrontational at all. Well done for sending the email

ClawedButler · 14/07/2023 11:01

Thank you for the encouragement. I feel like I'm bracing myself for a fight, but at the same time I can't stand by and allow what I see as indoctrination of children.

If you haven’t read it, Clawed, you might take heart and be inspired by what another poster Vebrithian managed, though it is long. Even though it may not reflect an identical there is so much useful thinking on it. I think there were two threads in the end.
Sex not gender, No Outsiders changing the Equality Act, DepHead/DSL captured

Speak to the school and they will clarify it.
