There's an interesting survey that's popped up in the NFP Survey section of the talk topics, I'm sure people can work out which one I mean! Curious as to what other people think of the questions?

Hmmm.

I don’t know anything about Purdue University’s Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
so I had a look at their mission statements. One of three feminist goals is to eliminate discriminatory practices and inequalities based on gender? (not sex)

“The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program seeks to produce, promote, and advance knowledge, scholarship, theory, research, pedagogy, education, and action in the service of three overlapping feminist goals : understanding and improving women’s lives and status; revealing the operations and consequences of gender, sexuality, and other critical axes of identity and power relations such as race, class, ethnicity, nationality, age, ability, etc., as constitutive and intertwined elements of sociality; and eliminating discriminatory practices and inequalities based on gender, sexual orientation, and other critical axes of identity such as race, class, ethnicity, nationality, age, ability, etc.

Our program sponsors student engagement on issues central to feminism, promotes equality for all people regardless of the way they express their gender or sexuality, and nurtures academic research and scholarly inquiry that supports these core values

Launching tomorrow's feminist leaders by promoting feminist inquiry and research comprise the twinned objectives of the Center.

I don’t think I’ll complete their survey.

Those questions are so completely stupid. Its going to be used as a gotcha to prove transwomen are just as much a woman as females

TheirEminence · 10/07/2023 13:16

Not that I’m wearing my tinfoil hat today but the study seems to be sponsored by the Open Society Foundation, an important global funder of causes that some may regard as systematically privileging transgender concerns over women’s concerns.

IMO it would not be unreasonable to assume that results from the study are going to be used to further certain causes. A bit of a conflict of interest, I think.

teawamutu · 10/07/2023 13:16

I did complete it. But my description of gender included the words 'nonsense' and 'stereotypes' and my description of radical feminism included 'saying no to men, even if it hurts their feelings'. So I expect they'll bin my contribution for wrong think.

They have questions on whether you think a tw or a woman is more likely to do childcare, have long hair, be gentle etc etc etc. It's ridiculous.

I couldn't get past these, how do you answer questions so loaded on stereotypes

If it was a behaviour, I went for the middle option. Raising children and doing housework, sex-based.

I would have preferred a 'This is bullshit' option, though.

PriOn1 · 10/07/2023 21:08

I don’t honestly know enough men who claim they are women to complete the survey. Lots of people say they have lovely trans friends (as do I, but both female).

Those who are most prominent in activism circles and on the internet seem very stereotypically male in behaviour and hyper feminised in appearance, but doubtless if I (and others) put that on there, they will use it as evidence of women’s prejudice rather than assessing whether there’s any actual truth to it.

As for who’s hairiest, I’m going for Alex Drummond.
