I want to wish everyone at London Trans Pride today a joyful, safe and empowering day.

It's never been more important to support trans people, who are being stigmatised and placed at the heart of a toxic culture war.

As your Mayor, I will always be on your side.🏳️‍⚧️

Powerful words! Looking forward to him endorsing and supporting LGB-only events too. As he's a man of principle I'm sure we'll see this in the very near future.

And now there is a whole separate trans event, a week after the actual London Pride event, in the second weekend of July
So?
They're doing what everyone presumably wanted, their own event.
Yet still people have a problem, as they're sick of hearing about Pride as there's been a whole month of it.
Seems can't win whatever

I think they should have their own Pride.

And LGB can have their Pride back and women their womens marches. Everybody happy

Ok, it's just T you don't agree with being there.
but the thread title has scissors after the T to cut it away
Then you have another comment from another that has just come out and said it, that it's Pride full stop that they have a problem with, you've "had a whole flippin month" and are sick of hearing about Pride.
So sounds like all the letters there.
Just guess I'll never understand why you want those with seemingly views against the LGB too on your "side" just because they don't "like" T either.

BodgerLovesMashedPotato · 08/07/2023 12:51

It's just what happens if you get your wish, T stops being part of LGBT?
Does it stop there?
Or do you get people moving on to stop B being on there too as they don't believe it's a real thing?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/07/2023 12:18

'If only those damned gender critical women would roll over and take it and not keep fighting to keep their hard-won rights and spaces!!'

Exactly! Pesky little women, you know the drill by now - be quiet and be kind.

These men seem to have forgotten that we’ve been fighting for our sex-based rights for centuries and we’re not about to stop now.

The point is that T is nothing to do with LGB.

LGB are sexualities, T isn't. Simple as that.

RoyalCorgi · 08/07/2023 13:27

Sadiq Khan has been parroting the mantra for a long time. "Trans women are women, trans men are men" etc etc. My only surprise is he doesn't come out with "Four legs good, two legs bad."

TheDogthatDug · 08/07/2023 13:32

Good comments on that feed from "Tired Transexual".

sanluca · 08/07/2023 13:36

Ok, it's just T you don't agree with being there.

You are missing the point, to be found in my next sentence.

No one begrudges the T a Pride for them. So why do the T begrudge the LGB a Pride for the LGB? How many times have we heard about gay or lesbian people being told to stay away from Pride because they don't agree with gender ideology?

Same applies to the womens marches, whereby women are told that anything centering female biology should not be allowed?

Having a Pride specifically for trans people shows that LGB, women and trans are separate categories of people based on completely different characteristics and the needs of those categories are not the same.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 08/07/2023 14:07

MerlinsLostMarbles · 08/07/2023 11:25

The "gender critical" movement?

Presumably you also think the war in Ukraine is Ukraine's fault for say no to Russia.

That would be an entirely fair comment if TRAs were not also insisting on being centred in Pride as well, on "no LGB without the T", labelling LBA charities and activists as hate groups etc.

What people are aghast about is the utter unfairness and selfishness of celebrating T without LGB but rejecting any possibility of LGB without T.

Despite the efforts of the TRAs to paint any question or debate of trans demands as a rejection of who trans people are, the reason there is a push back is it fact in reaction to what TRAs do.

But I'm sure you realise that.

It's always interesting to see what "next steps" people accuse others of. It's a real window into how the accuser thinks.

It should go back to just being Gay Pride. It didn't need to be divided up into LGB, gay man, gay woman, sometimes gay man etc. It was very simple, it was about people having same-sex relationships. Everyone who experienced same-sex attraction (whether they were gay, lesbian, bisexual) knew it was about them.

SunnyEgg · 08/07/2023 14:27

SirChenjins · 08/07/2023 10:51

The moment men stop demanding to be admitted to single sex spaces, to take women’s places in sport, to access women’s services and for their self declared gender to equal sex the war will be over. Balls (literally and figuratively) in their court.

Yep

Being bisexual doesn't necessarily mean being same sex attracted though, so how would that work?
If they're in a relationship with someone of the opposite sex?

Wow. I honestly can't believe you just said that.

Being bisexual means being attracted to both sexes. That includes the same as your own, whether or not you currently, or even ever, act on that attraction.

BodgerLovesMashedPotato · 08/07/2023 15:10

Um... that is literally what I just said?! That is an attraction to BOTH sexes, I am agreeing with you there!
The poster I was replying to said they thought Pride should just be for same sex attracted couples, I was saying that if you are bi then you are attracted to the opposite sex as well as the same sex, that"s all.
So it sounded like they would be questioned if they were in an opposite sex relationship

peekohome · 08/07/2023 15:17

I'm wondering if we need a Female Pride.

Not transphobic as transmen welcome, but we exclude transwomen.

Ask Sadiq to support us. Denouncing MALE violence against women.

Lolz in advance!

creativebutterfly · 08/07/2023 15:20

Surprised an alleged Muslim man like him would support that kind of thing - the whole world has gone mad and I am entitled to not support any of this nonsense.... be what you want to be but don't protest to get it taught to young impressionable kids etc

Florissante · 08/07/2023 15:20

MowingTheTerf · 08/07/2023 11:36

A way to help would be to go back to the original term of transsexual, someone has actually has gender dysmorphia and has had some medical transition.

Trans and Transgender is too umbrella which allows bearded men to self-identify as female. If you want to call yourself "trans" then I want to see real commitment.

I recently asked a "trans" campaigner how exactly he was trans, and the answer was "why did I want to know about his genitals?". A straight up refusal to answer, because the campaigner did not have gender dysmorphia, has not taken any cross-sex hormones and appears on TV with a beard!

No. Because humans can't change sex.

Being bisexual means being attracted to both sexes. Please don't deny what is there in black and white.

Er... denying the existence of trans men and saying they're women kind of is? Plus why would they want to be included in a women's Pride if they identify as men?!
I don't need a Woman's Pride, it feels a bit like those saying Where's my straight Pride?

I said a FEMALE PRIDE. Transmen may not want to attend a meeting for females. Fine! But because they ARE female they'd be welcome. You do realise you're on a feminist board? Where we seek to advance the rights of females no matter their race, age etc?
That's the point of feminism. FEMinism. Which fights against misoGYNy and SEXism.

Jeez.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 08/07/2023 15:45

Er... denying the existence of trans men and saying they're women kind of is?

Well this is the crux of it isn't it?

Is it transphobic to hate and fear trans people, to claim they are lesser humans, or hurt them or deny them the rights that others have simply because they do not conform to social expectations of their sex? Of course.

Is it transphobic to not agree with the belief that mental gender, not physical sex, is the "truth" of Man and Woman, and therefore to not agree that a trans man is a man and a trans woman is a woman? Is the definition of transphobia really extended into simply "saying no to a trans person"? I say no. There has to be room to face the reality, the history and the physical and structural significance of sex and deal with what female people need because of that even if it does not tell trans people the story they want to believe about themselves.
