Feminist organisation Level Up comes out batting for the breastfeeding person who's been in the news this week

https://www.welevelup.org/surveys/solidaritywithmika/

There's an open letter which is like a who's who of people and organisations who've made prats of themselves on Twitter at one point or another over genderwoo.

I think I'll direct my feminist solidarity elsewhere, thanks.

Good solid socialists there!

Dianbeatthis · 07/07/2023 17:12

I despair. All those well intentioned people diverting attention away from the women who need them - having the audacity to suggest that because we object to the idea of a man putting a new born baby to his chest to validate his own idea of himself we somehow are against adoptive mothers, step-mothers, lesbian mothers, foster-mothers, single fathers looking after their children. Can they not see the blatant manoeuvring and media manipulation of this man? What are they on? When are they going to realise that this is just not right?

I suspect that this would be one of those - "oh bugger, if I say no they'll call me a transhobe" demands requests.

Thelnebriati · 07/07/2023 17:23

I'm struggling to see how that is in any way feminist of them.

Illegallyblonder · 07/07/2023 17:23

such total bullshit.

LonginesPrime · 07/07/2023 17:47

I'm quite surprised at some of the organisations on the list whose core aims fundamentally rely on recognising biological sex.

For example, how do No Births Behind Bars expect to further their aims by pretending that biological males are women? Surely that's inevitably going to cause far more births behind bars?

Or do they only care about whether "pregnant people" (their words) are jailed in the first place and not actually about avoiding births behind bars, as they claim?

Regardless of all the other issues, I'm also surprised at how many people are vocally and publicly supporting male breastfeeding when there doesn't appear to be any evidence base for its safety or nutritional value in terms of child health - I realise that people who've already jumped on the magic train to gender identity land are going to find it easier to believe any random gender myth they're told, but are they really all convinced that whatever's coming out of that biological male's nipples is the same thing as female breast milk?

Whatwouldscullydo · 07/07/2023 17:47

Always with the "condem the attacks"
Straight into maintaining the illusion of victim hood. The world is made up of families of all sorts if combinations and circumstances most people accept this. What they simply do not accept is lying to the children about where they came from. Gaslighting them about who's the mum and who's the dad, using the child to validate identity rather than be honest about how they came to be. And of course the safety of the " milk" being fed to the child

How can an organisation really come out and say that because sone kids are starving/being abused its really not such a big deal if a male takes loads of medication to breastfeed a baby simply to validate an identity. Is that the baseline ? You don't batter your kid so its ok if its all just a fetish no one got hurt?

Tinysoxx · 07/07/2023 17:49

Did these people know about the nipple clamp posts? I would suggest this information should make them think harder. Also it’s obvious that you are condoning a baby swallowing a whole cocktail of drugs for no benefit to the baby.

The academics and politicians putting their name to this must be particularly confident about Mika to put their name to this.

It’s not feminist, it’s very silly.

I got nothing.

Grumpigal · 07/07/2023 17:54

The chest feeding stuff literally makes me feel sick. physically nauseous when I think about it.

Anyone, but especially the women validating this and thinking it is in any possible way OK needs a fucking lobotomy.

As shit as it is to see these “feminist” causes on the woo side, it’s actually very useful because it means we can decide who to support and who to steer clear of.

EdithStourton · 07/07/2023 17:54

Our friends at the Good Law Project are on there...

Henowner · 07/07/2023 17:56

I'm dipping my toe in the water here - absolute bollocks

FKATondelayo · 07/07/2023 18:08

There seem to be a lot of these lib-fem organisations with vague hard-to-measure objectives (raising awareness, creating petitions) but plenty of employees and marketing money.

For a country that has - in practice at least - one of the most liberal abortion policies in the world, it's remarkable how many charitocrats are kept employed by campaigning for abortion in the UK.

ResisterRex · 07/07/2023 18:18

It's a useful list of useful idiots.

I only spotted one pronouner though? For shame. The rest need to #DoBetter.

duc748 · 07/07/2023 18:20

Bit surprised at Sultana and Begum; both Muslims. I thought Muslims were clear about this malarkey?

ANewCreation · 07/07/2023 19:02

So Mika larped as a 'mother'/a random member of the public/a person experiencing water poverty/someone who knows how to do washing up, while there are literally millions of actual mothers who are truthfully in that situation and could have been interviewed.

If Mika had just described themself as a parent then yes, to be honest, we would probably not have been so exercised about all the other untruths.

But in their performative gushing, do these signers of the open letter not realise or care they are also apologists for a male person with a kink for nipple clamps who made an infant suck or lick one of said male person's erogenous zones and then posted a picture of it online?

Or are we not allowed to question that either?

RoyalCorgi · 07/07/2023 19:07

You'd think so.

But if this ideology has taught me anything, it's that some people - even the ones you might expect to show a glimmer of intelligence - are extraordinarily stupid. They will go along with any fashionable supposedly progressive ideology simply because they imagine it makes them look good, without for one moment trying to think the issue through for themselves.

duc748 · 07/07/2023 19:13

And they've seen what's happened to the brave few people who have put their heads over the parapet and said, this is wrong/bollocks.

meowgender · 07/07/2023 19:19

I feel embarrassed for the whole lot of them.

Their strapline is disrupting gender.

They're not a service provider with local authority contracts. I wonder where the money for a dozen employees on London salaries comes from?

Forwarder · 07/07/2023 19:21

The entire Green Party of England and Wales has signed a perverts rights charter.

Expect mumsnet will delete this comment for calling a spade a spade.

eggcupboard · 07/07/2023 19:50

I'm tempted to sign some high-profile fence-sitters' names to the list, to see if they disavow.

BezMills · 07/07/2023 19:56

Whatever matey was doing, it was not breast feeding. That's a specific thing where you feed an infant with breast milk from your breast.

Toseland · 07/07/2023 20:05

What on earth is going on - all those people and not one of them thinks 'pervert' like I do. I'd love to know what they consider to be a pervert or does such a thing not occur to them in their priviliged lives?

Dianbeatthis · 07/07/2023 20:10

I hardly dare ask but what is the deal with nipple clamps??
