NC as I don't want this to link
I work in a heavily dominated male industry who are usually brilliant at showcasing females
Pride month hit, all fine

What is the webinar on you ask, for pride month?
A trans woman in the industry. On how to be your authentic self and transitioning in a masculine industry, and being an ally to the LBTQ community
Confused

Is it just me or would it have been more fucking inspirational to get a woman on who I dunno, is a lesbian, married to another woman to talk about how she has faced adversity?

Rather than the man who was already in the industry and was probably shit so transitioned and now everyone is "oh she's such a good female in the trade" Confused

I think I've peaked

O I don't know, it seems like trans people are facing increasing levels of hostility at the moment 🙄, so maybe they are mindful of that.

Strangely, lesbians are facing increasing aggression from men who oppose same-sex attraction and demand the right to have sex with lesbians. And these men seem to be the ones who are complaining about hostility.

Now let me try to find those surveys again that show the highest levels of support for trans people comes from lesbians.

People on here can repeat a lie as many times as they want; it won't make it any truer.

suggestionsplease1 · 29/06/2023 17:26

I'm in many lesbian groups: we have far more issues from drunk non-trans lesbians being inappropriate with others that are not interested in them than we do with the behaviour of any trans women.

Theunamedcat · 29/06/2023 17:29

Surveys don't always tell the accurate truth though do they?

A survey sent out from stonewall (for example) to anyone who "identified" as a lesbian would get different answers than one sent out to actual biological women who are same sex attracted lesbian

MotorSport · 29/06/2023 17:30

I'm not even talking about peoples sex life

More that he was on the industry as a man and now as a trans woman. How is that more inspiring than a woman talking about her difficulties starting in the trade as a woman and continuing as one

How can someone with a penis tell me how difficult it is as a woman in my job?

OP posts:
TeaKlaxon · 29/06/2023 17:30

This is like the third or fourth thread I've seen when people who claim to only care about protecting women and children's safety reveal that actually they just don't want trans people to exist or have any sort of profile.

Perhaps if they stopped pretending they were The Most Oppressed Ever™️ and subject to genocide on the scale of the Holocaust if correctly sexed, while simultaneously taking up every fucking public speaking opportunity possible, exerting their power to publicly wokescold companies or individuals who dare to use the word “woman”, and misapplying the law to change policies in a myriad of organisations people wouldn’t be so fed up with them.

Didn't your first post say your company were already brilliant at showcasing females?

It sounds like they are doing a good job all around.

MotorSport · 29/06/2023 17:42

Generally yes, which is why I'm so surprised they have picked this person. They acknowledge international women's day well and usually do a piece on particular staff

Apparently there is no uptake yet for this so it seems people are not wanting to join in

Well, maybe trans-identified men forcing themselves into every single female space is now having its consequences, hmm?

OP has already said her company are brilliant at showcasing women.

Why can they not showcase trans people as well?

MotorSport · 29/06/2023 17:52

I'm not bothered that they exist and I will happily use pronouns. But this is someone in the industry external to our company that's been brought in and it's.. could you not pick a woman? One of the directors?
Maybe pick an older woman to talk about how the industry has changed and her experiences

DemiColon · 29/06/2023 17:58

I'd rather my job didn't showcase anyone, I am sick of employers and companies trying to inculcate their political opinions and would like them to just talk about doing the actual job.

Why can they not showcase trans people as well?

Because how exactly are transwomen finding it hard in a male-dominated industry? They're male!

O can you really think of no scenarios where trans people might experience difficulties, challenges or hostility at work?

You should some more of FWR and get yourself an education perhaps.

RoseslnTheHospital · 29/06/2023 18:07

The issue with grouping together the LGB with T in this context and using someone from the T category as the representative is that their issues and story are not going to represent the LG and B. It's a different set of issues. Sexuality is not the same as trans status.

It's a shame they couldn't have had smaller segments on people from each category. And maybe find a transman rather than just a transwoman. And let's not forget about all the non-binary people and those who identify as queer for other reasons.

MotorSport · 29/06/2023 18:10

Of course they might experience hostility or difficulties
But it won't be because they're a woman Confused

Did I accidentally post in AIBU? < checks >

Presumably your company wishes to support all of its employees right?

Why should it not try to encourage a supportive atmosphere for any trans employees so that they can reach their maximum potential in the company, be less at risk of stress related illness, less likely to take sick leave etc?
