I knoooow it's the Daily Mail, but she had her letter published about quitting volunteering for Oxfam.
She volunteered since she retired over 20 years ago and just had enough of the wokery

Well done your mum! Though it must be quite emotional for her after so long. I am really gutted that so many of the previously great charities, companies and other organisations I used to respect and be involved with are falling for this utter nonsense and are now prepared to treat their loyal female volunteers, donors, customers etc like dirt because of it 😟

Myalternate · 27/06/2023 23:26

Well done your Mum! 👏
A woman of principles.

Redshoeblueshoe · 27/06/2023 23:30

Well done to Granny sharkdoodoodood

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 27/06/2023 23:31

Brilliant 👏

determinedtomakethiswork · 27/06/2023 23:32

That's absolutely brilliant. I agree with every word.

Binbonboomf · 27/06/2023 23:33

Well done!

Oxfam and the BHF are the only charity shops I won't go in.

Oxfam is always massively overpriced too!

Earlydancing · 27/06/2023 23:33

I don't know why charities have got involved with this, really. The vast, vast, vast amount of people are respectful and don't want to offend anyone, regardless of their beliefs in trans issues. They're just volunteering at a job they like and would like to feel appreciated by the charity rather than talked down to. I don't understand why, instead of lecturing everyone and getting their back up, they don't just deal with any issues if they arise.

Joolsin · 27/06/2023 23:35

Oxfam's loss is Cats Protection's gain - lucky cats. Well done, your Mum!

Moomoola · 28/06/2023 10:19

And another well done. Go girl!

Well done to your mum and I suspect there will be quite a few other women joining her if they haven't already.

If only we could FOI them to ask about their volunteer numbers after their marketing stunt with their representation of JKR.

Their annual accounts will show a loss in donations I'm sure but their stores rely on volunteers so this will have a huge impact if the numbers are big enough.

tourdefrance · 28/06/2023 10:46

Well done to your mum!

Peony654 · 28/06/2023 10:51

Well I'd personally be utterly ashamed if that was my mum.

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/06/2023 11:19

Would you like to explain why Peony ? Or do you think volunteers should not be allowed to have opinions of their own ?
or just women

arethereanyleftatall · 28/06/2023 11:31

Good for her 💪

Tropicaldi · 28/06/2023 11:32

I might just be premenstrual but your mum’s letter brought a tear to my eye @Babysharkdoodoodood . There’s nothing quite like someone bravely standing up for their principles, for what is right, in a David and Goliath face-off like that, to stir my blood. Courage calls to courage!

Hats off to your mum! Brava! 👏👏👏

I'm sure you'd never live it down.

Nice to get an explanation…..

i can’t see anything even vaguely shameful in that letter

well done to your mum baby, its a hard thing to do when you’ve been somewhere for 20 years

fiftyandfat · 28/06/2023 16:15

What have I missed about the BHF?

maltravers · 28/06/2023 16:19

Did she tell Oxfam why Baby Shark, I hope so. The issue I assume is that in these times all charities have to have DEI initiatives, no-one senior will touch the poison chalice (are they across the latest GI mumbo jumbo sufficiently) so the role is allocated to some young woke warrior, who doesn’t know or care about those who organise all the donations and staff the shops (the much despised middle aged or older women). And senior management overseeing don’t dare, or don’t care, to correct the course. This will hopefully be a salutary lesson to oxfam and others that their own volunteers also need to be treated with respect. I’ve considered volunteering for oxfam before, not anymore.
