I haven’t seen another thread on this, but if there is, I’ll ask for this to be deleted.

Lance Armstrong gave his opinion on transwomen in womens sport yesterday. I appreciate where he’s coming from, and agree with him, but given his past, I’m not sure how helpful it is to us.

Yep, let's get Harvey Weinstein around the virtual table as well...

Apollo441 · 26/06/2023 20:16

Well its one cheat calling out another. I think it's helpful.

PronounssheRa · 26/06/2023 20:19

I suppose he knows about the impacts of doping and how to cheat effectively more than most people do.

Maybe this is it. Kinda like……it takes one to know one.

Bloody hell, I’d never show my face again if I’d been revealed as one of sport’s biggest cheats. Unless that’s the angle he’s taking…

Set a thief to catch a thief kind of thing.

Plasmodesmata · 26/06/2023 20:28

Yes, Lance was a big cheat. He, however, wasn't (and probably still isn't) the only drugs cheat in cycling. His TdF wins weren't redistributed to runners up because, well, they were probably cheating too. Cycling had / has a big cheating problem. By whatever means necessary. Whether that be taking all the drugs, sticking an engine in your bike and hoping nobody notices, or whatever. Which is why, I think, it's attracting quite so many cheaters who are taking any advantage they can to race in the wrong category.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 26/06/2023 20:29

If anyone knows a cheat when he's sees one, it's him.

MargotBamborough · 26/06/2023 20:39

I don't think this is helpful.

He implies in his first tweet that he was shamed and cancelled, and in doing so positions himself alongside female athletes who are being shamed and cancelled for wanting women's sports to be single sex.

Lance Armstrong wasn't cancelled for wrongthink, he was found to have cheated in sport and was stripped of his medals and titles. The same way people like Laurel Hubbard, Lia Thomas and Emily Bridges are cheating in sport, except their cheating is within the rules because gender woo.

Armstrong is really the last person we need fighting our corner because he has zero credibility. Particularly to call out the unfairness of people cheating at sport.

If he'd tweeted something like, "As a man who took performance enhancing substances before elite cycling competitions, I know all about exploiting an unfair advantage to steal medals and titles from your competitors, which is what these people are doing", it might have hit home for some people.

Chersfrozenface · 26/06/2023 20:45

Well, quite. You weren't cancelled, Lance honey, you were found out.

ArabeIIaScott · 26/06/2023 21:00

I don't even believe in the moon conspiracy theories anyway.

RealityFan · 26/06/2023 21:07

I guess he just can't hack being caught for drugs doping while Austin Killips keeps gender doping while everyone's watching.

Lidlpopdrinker · 26/06/2023 21:11

Well, considering dude thinks it’s fine to cheat himself, I’d say he’s a bit of a hypocrite, wouldn’t you?

I mean he’s dead right, but he’s also a cheat, so…

rabbitwoman · 26/06/2023 21:17

Interesting.

From watching several documentaries and interviews with Lance Armstrong, his whole journey has been very much shaped by the fact that he's a typical narcissistic psychopath.

At the very least, if he's tweeting this it's because he believes it's in his best interests.

This.

He's just salty that transgender athletes are being hailed as brave and stunning for doing essentially the same thing he had his medals and titles taken away for doing.

FannyCann · 26/06/2023 21:30

LOL. One of his Twitter replies.

I bet this is very much the case. Gotta be killing him.

With regards to Armstrong, the biggest conundrum to me is why all those who called him out on his cheating are so silent on the males in women’s sport issue, or positively supporting it. Nothing from Paul Kimmage. David Walsh wrote a book about Armstrong yet is actively supporting his mate Philippa York, even though the male advantage over females is greater than the advantage of EPO.

Agreed!

As I recall, York wasn't completely doping ban free either, back in the day.
