Apart from the fact that she was raped, if consent to sex is to be a legal term, I find the prosecutions allegations appalling.

'But the prosecution alleged Mayo must have known she was pregnant but chose to deliberately conceal it because she was always planning to kill the baby.'

Perhaps Mayo didn't get early abortion help she needed. I know of one woman, who had 3 previous children, who didn't realise she was pregnant, thought it was early menopause until 4 weeks before her due date. However to allege she was always planning to kill the baby is a step too far. It intimates that those in authority know this child's mind.

Infanticide is only applied to a female.

Can you explain @AllOfThemWitches why Mayo wouldn't have had an abortion? Your response 'that's a lot of excuses' is devoid of any understanding.

Everyone thinks that abortions services are available at the click of a finger throughout all of the UK. This isn't so, especially in rural areas.

Abortion is accessible, safe and legal in this country. Up to 24 weeks. That's a decent amount of time to figure something out.

It's fascinating to me that a person is convicted of murder and people on the internet are bleating on about infanticide as if they were there, privy to the details and know better. Simply because the case concerns a female murderer.

For your own sanity - step away from this thread. People here are arguing that this girls depravity is excusable based on her sex and age.

The biggest waste of time is arguing with the fool and fanatic who doesn’t care about truth or reality, but only the victory of their beliefs and illusions.

I mean, this is just daft stuff when you are talking about a 15 year old. My DD is this age and I think she’d find it very difficult to negotiate her way to an abortion without parental support. We are not talking about a person with adult capacity here.
what she did was not wrong because she could have accessed abortion. It’s wrong because it’s wrong. Yabbering about abortion access is spectacularly irrelevant

ArabeIIaScott · 25/06/2023 11:47

I fully agree that there is far too much that is unknown for anyone here to draw any conclusions about motivation or mental health in this case.

I was 37 when I had my abortion. Let me take you through the details of how 'accessible' this was. I had to go to Manchester to be assessed and then to go to Liverpool for the abortion. I had an early abortion, 10 weeks, because I simply couldn't go through another miscarriage. It took two weeks to have this done. When I was pregnant with my third baby, the hospital gave me an early scan, brilliant care, to reassure me.

I know this was in 1997, and things have thankfully moved on since.

There are still those living in rural areas, when getting 'accessible' health care for pregnancy, especially when a teenager, Y8/Y9, and all alone is a bewildering experience.

I've accessed the service more than once, once as a teen. It really was so much easier than continuing a pregnancy and killing a newborn.

pickledandpuzzled · 25/06/2023 12:02

@IheardYouButDontWantToAnswer she was 14 when she got pregnant.

Unable to consent.

There are reasons why we don't want 14yr olds having sex.

24 weeks is a perfectly good timescale to get an abortion if you know you are pregnant, and have someone to get you to a clinic for more than one appointment.

When you are 14/15 it's not as easy.

And as for letting off a man murdering a small baby because he can't cope...
It's simply not the same. My definition he has someone else there at least some of the time (the mum), it's not a secret by the time he is involved, he hasn't been through the trauma of an unwanted pregnancy followed by secret birth... when he has, by all means use that as a comparison.

To be honest if a 15yr old boy was living in a squat with his girlfriend, both afraid of anyone realising they were there, and she'd gone out and not come back, and he was afraid he'd be accused of something if he sought help- I could well imagine he'd fail to cope. And still he wouldn't have had the hormones and prolonged stress she'd experienced.

So your theory is she could have had a termination but chose not to in order to continue the pregnancy and have the opportunity to murder the baby?

Because I can't see the relevance otherwise.

Yeah I do think it's a possibility, especially considering how violent the murder was.

AllOfThemWitches · 25/06/2023 12:06

I mean, this is absolutely true.

Agree.

Yes because psychiatrists always have patients that are totally engaged with the process and they can't come to any conclusions without that.

Well I can go back 50 years, teenage me arrives to see GP as I thought I was pregnant, he confirmed it and spent several minutes trying to get me to agree to an abortion as he thought it was the most sensible thing to do. He took some convincing but eventually accepted that I wasn't having an abortion. I don't think a pregnant 14 year old would have much trouble getting an abortion.

Yeah, you're right really. After all, you can't truly consider yourself a feminist unless you can find excuses for every evil act a woman/girl has ever committed.

But you can't know that!
You can't know she knew in time, knew what to do and how to do it.

You can't know her dad didn't demand to know where she was at all times.

These days school rings your home if you don't turn up. You can't sneak a day off to nip to a clinic.

You can literally have pills posted to you. If anything, it is too easy to have an abortion. And quite frankly, if I really couldn't access the service and really didn't want a baby, I'd DIY it over giving birth and subjecting my living, breathing baby to a violent death.

And there we have it. @AllOfThemWitches may well espouse 'accessible' abortion there is ALWAYS, a caveat.

Literally no idea what you're banging on about at this point. Do yourself a favour and stop pretending it's nigh on impossible to end your pregnancy if that's what you want. I've been there and done it.

I'm surprised you didn't diy your pregnancy but sought a legal way instead.

DIY abortion is illegal in this country.

Given that you can have an abortion without even going to a clinic , I'm going to stand by what I've said. Thanks for your input though.

OK, would you rather do your own abortion or kill your newborn baby?
